Bear Grylls served as Chief Scout for the UK, and wrote a great book: Do Your Best- How to be a Scout.

Garrett keeps that book on the side of his desk.

Congratulations!

Congratulations!

This past weekend, 36 participants successfully completed our Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Course and earned their Wilderness First Aid certification!

Over the course of the weekend, participants developed essential skills for responding to medical emergencies in remote and outdoor settings, including patient assessment, injury management, environmental emergencies, and evacuation decision-making.

We are incredibly proud of this dedicated group for their hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment to outdoor safety. Their new knowledge and skills will help make camps, outdoor programs, and wilderness adventures safer for everyone.

Please join us in congratulating our newest Wilderness First Aid certified participants!

๐Ÿงข Respecting Individual Needs in Scouting

Scouting welcomes everyoneโ€”and that includes respecting:

โœ” Religious practices
โœ” Cultural traditions
โœ” Medical needs

Alternative clothing or headgear is appropriate when it is safe and does not interfere with activities.

Every Scout deserves to feel comfortable and included.

Just spread the peanut butter on the graham crackers and assemble as normal. For an even richer treat, add a peanut butter cup.

Ok, who wants to be an angling educator?

Scouts 15 years and older can apply!

The Connecticut Rivers Council is pleased to offer TWO opportunities for Older Scouts, Leaders & Camp Staff to become an Angling Educator this Spring.

Sunday, June 21 - 1:00 PM till 4:30 PM at June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation. Register at https://scoutingevent.com/066-115859

Wednesday, July 1 - 5:00 PM till 8:30 PM at Mattatuck Scout Reservation. Register at https://scoutingevent.com/066-115862

Angling Educator is a four-hour training course for Scouters and Scouts aged 15 and older. It is a national course and is taught by BSA Certified Angling Instructors. The purpose of the class is to prepare program leaders to teach fishing skills, help Cubs complete the new elective, Fishing Adventures, at all levels, and plan and run fishing events for their unit, district, or Council.

Angling Educators learn age-appropriate and skill-appropriate fishing tools and techniques for simple cane pole and spin-cast fishing. With the addition of fishing adventures at every level of Cub Scouts & Scouts BSA, this is a great time to expand your skills in teaching youth to fish! The course highlights best practices in both the classroom and in the field.

Graduates can:
โ€ข Teach Cubs and Scouts to fish and help them be more successful at catching fish.
โ€ข Gain knowledge and learn skills that can be enjoyed and shared for a lifetime.
โ€ข Improve day camp & summer camp attendance through fishing program options.
โ€ข Provide a major tool for recruiting and retaining Cubs and Scouts at the unit and district level.

Graduates will receive a BSA Angling Educator patch!
