The Friends of Sherwood Island State Park is a volunteer advocacy group whose mission is to enhance the Park & educate the public about its resources.

Sherwood Island is a State Park, operated by CT DEEP. To contact the state: [email protected] The Nature Center is open in the summer Wednesday - Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. The Park is open from 8:00 am daily and closes at sunset, year-round. The Friends' of Sherwood Island SP have no management role in the Park.

Fall colors are beautiful among the Black Gum trees we planted in 2021 in the picnic area west of the Concession Stand. While weeding in the dunes, we spotted a vagrant Variegated Fritillary, not often seen in Connecticut!

Lovely 911 Memorial service yesterday at the point. The Friends of Sherwood Island donated white roses to the families of those who lost a loved one that day.

Tour our Pollinator & Three Sisters Gardens any Tuesday morning from 8-10 am, August 18 through the end of October.
Our gardeners will show you dozens of labeled native plants in the Pollinator Garden in front of the Nature Center.
Learn how easy it is to grow strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, squash and potatoes, see them all in our 3 Sisters garden behind the Nature Center.

Our Friday Garden Team takes care of the east beach dunes. While weeding on August 7, we found 20 species of plants that don't belong in the dunes, as well as tunnels dug by multiple giant Cicada-killer Wasps. We also spotted a Steel-blue Cricket-hunter Wasp and it's prey, the Eastern Striped Cricket.

On Wednesday, July 8 at 10 am DEEP staff and volunteers will be banding baby Purple Martins at the Nature Center.
