Are you still talking about National Maritime Week? Because we are!

National Maritime Week 2026 brought together more than 1,000 maritime professionals, policymakers, educators, innovators, and industry leaders for a week of conversations, collaboration, and action focused on the future of the American maritime industry.

From discussions on maritime revitalization and workforce development to innovation, sustainability, safety, and national security, one theme remained clear throughout the week: the maritime community is stronger when we work together.

NAMEPA was proud to contribute to the conversation through our Workforce Development Workshop and standing-room-only Safety at Sea Seminar, while also joining partners across the industry in celebrating the people, organizations, and initiatives shaping the future of maritime.

Though National Maritime Week 2026 has come to a close, the work continues. The partnerships strengthened, ideas shared, and commitments made throughout the week will help drive progress for our industry in the months and years ahead.

Thank you to everyone who attended, participated, and helped make National Maritime Week 2026 such a success. We look forward to continuing the conversation.

Today, on the International Day for Women in Maritime, NAMEPA proudly recognizes the women helping shape the future of the maritime industry across every sector of our community.

From vessels to ports, classrooms to boardrooms, shipyards to sustainability initiatives, women continue to drive innovation, operational excellence, environmental stewardship, and leadership throughout the global maritime space.

The maritime industry has always depended on resilience, intelligence, adaptability, and collaboration, qualities demonstrated every day by the women advancing this industry forward.

At NAMEPA, we are especially grateful for the women within our membership, leadership, partner organizations, and maritime workforce who continue to mentor, educate, advocate, and lead by example for the next generation entering the industry.

As maritime continues to evolve through technological advancement, sustainability efforts, and global challenges, diverse perspectives and inclusive leadership are not just important; they are essential.

Today, we celebrate the contributions of women across maritime and reaffirm our commitment to supporting an industry.

Happy International Day for Women in Maritime.

What does it take to build the future of safe maritime operations?

As the maritime industry navigates rapid technological advancement, workforce shifts, and the operational impacts of the energy transition, the conversation around safety has never been more important.

At NAMEPA’s Safety at Sea Seminar during National Maritime Week, Panel #3: Building the Future of Safe Maritime Operations will bring together industry leaders to discuss workforce development, operational readiness, training, and the safety considerations surrounding emerging technologies and fuels.

Moderated by Molly Dushay, the panel will feature Adam Lukasiewcz, Buddy Custard, and Doug Martin.

“The future of maritime safety depends on our ability to prepare people, adapt responsibly to new technologies, and maintain operational readiness through change,” said Molly Dushay. “This conversation brings together leaders focused on the real-world challenges and opportunities shaping the next generation of maritime operations.”

Join us in Washington, D.C. on May 21 for this important discussion during National Maritime Week. âš“

As the maritime industry navigates rapid change, from shifting trade routes to evolving technology and rising regulatory demands, one truth remains constant: safety at sea depends on people.

As part of National Maritime Week, NAMEPA’s Safety at Sea Seminar will bring industry leaders together in Washington, D.C. for a critical conversation on the human element of maritime safety, exploring how real-world pressures impact decision-making, leadership, and performance at sea.

Moderated by Jan Hagen Andersen of DNV, the panel features Peter Hadjipateras of Dorian LPG, Captain Robert Roncska (USN, Ret.) of Navy Bob, Paul Rosenblum of Stella Maris, and Maria Kolitsida of Signal Fusion, bringing perspectives from operations, leadership, human performance, and mariner wellbeing.

When a distress call goes out at sea, someone answers.

That’s what AMVER is all about.

On May 21, NAMEPA will host the 2026 AMVER Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C., honoring the vessels and crews who show up when it matters most. Representing 156 companies and more than 500 vessels worldwide.

Established in 1958 and expanded globally in 1971, AMVER has grown into a critical, technology-driven network supporting search and rescue efforts across the globe, built on a long-standing commitment to coordination, communication, and saving lives at sea.

And this isn’t just history; it’s happening every day. From the Carnival Legend rescuing a stranded sailor and his cat in the Gulf of Mexico, to a Princess Cruises vessel diverting course to assist a distressed craft, to Texas A&M Maritime Academy cadets stepping in during lifesaving operations. These are real moments that define the maritime community.

A powerful reminder of what unites the industry: a shared responsibility to protect life at sea, and always be ready to answer the call.
