Are you a high school student interested in environmental science but can't commit to our weekly fall programs?
NEXT WEEK we have three opportunities to come out and collect data with our team! Come out with us for a few hours after school and help identify macroinvertebrates in a local stream.

Are you a Bridgeport or Stratford resident who is concerned about litter in your community? Fill out our survey about the new Trash Trap being installed in the Bruce Brook Watershed and have your voice be heard!

Marine debris is not only unsightly, it contributes more pollution to our waters and can be hazardous to human health as well as wildlife.

Harbor Watch will be installing and maintaining a Trash Trap in conjunction with project partners at and the Lordship Improvement Association.

What color is the life of a water quality scientist? Turns out...its all of them! 🌈
We sent our interns on a "color hunt" during their field and lab work yesterday to see what each person could collect in their assigned color.
As their time with us is winding down and school starts back up, we hope they are taking in every detail and moment!

Great job everyone, and thanks for a fantastic summer! We will miss you all.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to for awarding us their Community Champions Grant to support our education initiatives for high school students this summer!

Our students were able to experience different careers and methods in water quality science and learn from our staff and partner organizations. Thank you to Constellation Energy for helping us to build the next generation of environmental stewards!

And last but certainly not least, we want to recognize undergraduate intern Felicia Voong!
Felicia collects pathogen samples in the field and processes them for indicator bacteria in our laboratory. She conducts water quality surveys in Saugatuck and Fivemile Harbors for our participation in the Unified Water Study and assists high school students with data collection and species identification as part of our FISH program.

Thanks for your dedication this summer, Felicia!

The next intern we will be highlighting is Adrian Corelli!
AJ leads our summer education opportunities for high school students, taking them on field trips to see future career options, investigating the water quality of local waterways, and teaching them to identify different species of marine creatures on our research vessel.
He also collects and processes pathogen samples and assists with other duties in our lab.

Thanks for joining us!

: Rising senior, Adriana, has spent her summer participating in not one, but two hands-on environmental science programs!

Through Harbor Watch at Earthplace's Fish & Invertebrate Study of Harbors, Adriana gained firsthand experience working aboard a research vessel, identifying aquatic species, collecting environmental data, and deploying a trawl system.

She also participated in their Summer River Research Program, where she explored water quality in local waterways, analyzed data in a state-certified lab, and investigated sources of pollution. Way to represent SJ, Adriana, we're so proud of you!

After a few weeks of crazy weather, we would love to thank the DeSantie Tire Company and the Town of Fairfield for helping remove large debris from our litter booms!
Large tires and trees can damage the booms, cause blockages in the river, and be nearly impossible for our teams to remove and dispose of safely.

Thanks to all for such a great team effort!
