$22,000 per resident. Per year. No government funding. Nearly 20 years of refining the model. Independent living outcomes at roughly four times the rate of a traditional shelter/services approach.

We're not trying to become the biggest program. We're trying to make sure more people see what's possible.

Join us for a tour of NYEP.

Most homelessness programs measure the apartment. Some teach the budget. Very few build the person who can keep both when life gets hard. That's the difference.

At NYEP, we don't start with the apartment. We start by building the capacity to hold one. Then we build the skills. Then the outcome. Because an outcome built on a skill without the capacity underneath it doesn't last.

That's the thinking behind the Becoming Stack™.

When someone doesn't get better on our timeline, we call them "resistant to services." That's one of the biggest tells that we're asking the wrong question. Instead of asking, "Why won't they engage?" What if we asked, "What are we failing to build?" Because if our solution depends on someone already having the capacity to benefit from it, then maybe the missing intervention isn't another service. Maybe it's capacity. Read more here:

Our community has always been one of NYEP's greatest strengths.

One of our residents, Meagan, is looking for a part-time position where she can put her skills and experience to good use while staying within her SSDI work-hour and income limits.

Meagan is SHRM certified and has experience in human resources and administrative support. She's especially interested in supporting a nonprofit mission but is open to other flexible, part-time opportunities that are a good fit.

Over the past several months at NYEP, Meagan has demonstrated the kinds of qualities every employer hopes to find, showing up consistently, being on time, receiving direction and redirection well, and following through on her commitments. She isn't just looking for a job; she's looking for an opportunity where she can contribute, continue learning, and grow over time.

If your organization is hiring, or if you know someone looking for a dependable part-time HR or administrative professional, we'd be grateful if you'd help make a connection.

Thank you Soroptimist of Washoe County for donating new to us patio furniture and much needed household items to the Community Living Program. Household items like these really make our house a home.

What if the biggest difference between programs isn't how much they care, but how intentionally they're designed?

After nearly twenty years of serving young women experiencing homelessness, we've learned that lasting independence isn't built through good intentions alone. It's built through systems that consistently develop the capacities adulthood requires.

We wrote about that in our latest article because we think it's a conversation worth having, not just in homelessness, but anywhere people are trying to help others succeed.

If you'd like to read it, here's the link: https://open.substack.com/pub/monicadupea/p/we-dont-run-a-program-we-run-a-system?utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=web

And if you'd rather see the system in action, we'd love to have you join us for a tour of NYEP. RSVP: https://form.jotform.com/260896175540060

If you looked at our calendar this week, you'd see meetings, meal prep, self-defense, grocery planning, and classes. We see something different: every one of those moments is intentionally building a capability someone will need long after she leaves NYEP.
