Fishing line recycling just got easier thanks to student Zach Wood, a West Monroe resident and Calhoun Middle School eight grader! 🎣

New containers at the Downtown Riverfront Fishing Pier and Kiroli Park pond now provide a convenient place to recycle used monofilament and fluorocarbon fishing line.

Zach is an avid fisherman who noticed littered fishing line and a need for convenient disposal options. He began picking up littered line and researched ways to help mitigate the issue.

Zach partnered with the BoatUS Foundation and the Berkley Conservation Institute to bring fishing line recycling to our area. After project planning and fundraising, he built these containers now available for our community to use.

Thank you, Zach, for helping us take care of our West Monroe Parks and waterways!
