The West Monroe Recycling Center is a free drop-off recycling facility open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to noon.

The recycling trailer is taking a trip to the fair! 🎡♻️

The West Monroe Recycling Center trailer will not be in Downtown West Monroe Thursday, October 8. Instead, you can find it at the Ark-La-Miss Fair at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center, 501 Mane Street, from 5–10 p.m.

Missing your usual downtown recycling stop? Bring your cardboard, plastic water bottles, and aluminum cans to the trailer, then enjoy an evening of fair fun!

While you’re enjoying the rides, food and games, remember to recycle your accepted items and put trash in the proper bins. A little extra care helps keep our community clean!

Recycling your fishing line just got easier! 🎣

New containers near the fishing pier at the Kiroli Park pond and at the Riverfront Fishing Pier provide a convenient place to recycle used monofilament and fluorocarbon fishing line. These containers were made possible by Zach Wood, a West Monroe resident and eighth grader at Calhoun Middle School.

Zach is an avid fisherman, who noticed discarded fishing line and a lack of convenient places to dispose of it were a problem. He began picking it up himself, then researched ways to help other people do the same. He partnered with the BoatU.S. Foundation and the Berkley Conservation Institute to bring fishing line recycling to our area. After several weeks of planning and fundraising, he built the containers now available for our community to use.

Thank you, Zach, for helping us care for our parks and waterways! Next time you go fishing, recycle your used line and help keep these spaces clean for everyone to enjoy.

If you’re heading out to the fair, keep an eye out for the West Monroe Recycling Center’s recycling trailer! You can enjoy all the rides, food and fun while helping us keep recyclable materials out of the landfill.

Be sure to use the labeled compartments for aluminum cans, water bottles and cardboard while you’re there. Every little bit counts! ✅

West Monroe, you showed up for recycling in September! ♻️

The West Monroe Recycling Center welcomed 2,481 vehicles throughout the month, with 260 coming through on our busiest day! Together, our community helped collect 27,249 pounds of cardboard and recycle 10,667 pounds of glass and 1,180 pounds of tin cans.

Behind every number is someone who saved their cans, sorted their glass or loaded up their cardboard and made the trip. Thank you for making recycling part of your routine and helping keep West Monroe beautiful. Let’s carry that momentum into October!

The West Monroe Recycling Center is on the move this week! ♻️

Whether you’re headed downtown, stopping by the center, or spending Saturday at the Northeast Louisiana Celtic Festival, there’s an opportunity to drop off your recyclables.

The Good Neighbors Geaux Green Recycling Competition is on! ♻️

West Monroe fifth graders and Monroe sixth graders are collecting clean, dry No. 1 plastic bottles from October 5 through October 22 at 3 p.m. Help your school collect as many as possible—please leave bottles uncrushed and look for the No. 1 recycling symbol.

The top three schools will win pizza, jump or ice cream parties for their fifth and sixth graders. Winners will be announced at the Fall Family Fun Fest on Saturday, October 24, around 5:30 p.m. Let’s geaux green together! 💚

During this weekend's Water Sweep cleanup event in West Monroe, collected trash from our local waterways was sorted so materials could be recycled. We're proud to partner with Keep West Monroe Beautiful and Ouachita Green to recycle materials whenever possible. ♻️

What happens to litter after it leaves our hands? Students at West Monroe High School got a firsthand look at that question this morning during a visit from Osprey Initiative!

Osprey Initiative is in West Monroe this week conducting litter cleanups in local canals and waterways through a grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful. As part of their visit, the team spoke with an environmental science class about how litter travels through our community, the ways it can eventually make its way into our waterways and the impact it can have on our environment and wildlife.

Students also had the opportunity to examine litter collected from West Monroe waterways earlier this morning and sort the items by material and source.

That same effort will continue during Water Sweep this weekend! Osprey Initiative will join volunteers on the Ouachita River to help collect litter from our local waterways, and recyclable materials collected during the cleanup will be separated and recycled whenever possible.

It’s a great reminder that cleanup doesn’t end when litter is picked up. By properly sorting and recycling the materials we recover, we can keep waste out of landfills when possible and give recyclable items another life.

Thank you to Osprey Initiative, Keep Louisiana Beautiful and West Monroe High School for helping educate our students and encouraging the next generation to think differently about waste and recycling! 💚♻️
