September is Environmental Awareness Month! 🌿♻️

Small choices can make a lasting difference, and recycling is one simple way we can all help conserve resources and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.

The West Monroe Recycling Center is a free drop-off facility open to everyone, regardless of where you live. Bring your recyclables to 607 Grantham Avenue during the following hours:
• Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 7 a.m.–5 p.m.
• First Saturday of every month: 9 a.m.–noon

The Recycling Center accepts No. 1 and No. 2 plastics, cardboard, aluminum, metal cans and glass. Please rinse containers and be prepared to sort your items when you arrive.

The City of West Monroe Recycling Center is getting ready to go green with our local elementary schools! ♻️

Mayor Staci Mitchell recently joined members of the Blake Wheelis - State Farm Insurance Agent to prepare for this year’s Good Neighbors Geaux Green Recycling Contest, beginning in October.

Local students will compete to see which school or class can collect the most plastic water bottles. It’s a fun way to encourage recycling, teach students about caring for our environment and make a positive difference in our community—one bottle at a time!

We can’t wait to see our students and schools rise to the challenge!

The West Monroe Recycling Center is hiring a part-time laborer! ♻️

This position is a great opportunity to serve the community while working alongside the Recycling Center team. Responsibilities include assisting visitors with recyclable materials, providing friendly customer service, helping maintain a safe and efficient facility, and supporting daily operations.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license. If you are dependable, enjoy working with others and are ready to learn, we encourage you to apply!

Starting Friday, August 7, we're once again accepting glass for processing at the Recycling Center. Thank you to everyone for your patience while the equipment was out of service—we know many of you have been eagerly waiting for this day!

Now's the perfect time to gather those glass bottles and jars you've been saving and bring them our way. Every bottle recycled helps reduce waste, conserve resources, and keep West Monroe clean and beautiful.

July was a record-breaking month at the West Monroe Recycling Center!♻️

Thanks to our community's continued commitment to recycling, July became our busiest month of 2026, with 2,687 vehicles visiting the Recycling Center.

We also set a new all-time record for cardboard processing, collecting an incredible 34,043 pounds (17.02 tons) of cardboard. That breaks our previous record of 32,980 pounds, set in April 2025!

Here's a look at what we accomplished together in July:
• 2,687 vehicles visited the Recycling Center
• 34,043 pounds of cardboard collected
• 1,366 pounds of aluminum cans recycled
• 1,286 pounds of tin cans recycled
• 273 vehicles visited on our busiest single day

Every item recycled helps reduce landfill waste, conserve natural resources, and keep West Monroe clean and beautiful. Thank you to everyone who continues to make recycling a priority. We look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together in the months ahead!

Help us support the next generation of Ouachita Parish 4-H members!💚

The City of West Monroe is partnering with Ouachita Parish 4-H to collect supplies that will be used in hands-on educational projects and activities throughout the upcoming school year.

We’re currently collecting:
•Empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls
•Clear 16–20 oz. plastic soda bottles (please rinse them out if you are able!)

Donations can be dropped off in the collection bin located in the lobby of West Monroe City Hall through Friday, July 31.

Every donation, big or small, helps provide local students with opportunities to learn, create, and grow. Thank you for supporting the youth who are helping shape the future of our community!

During the first six months of 2026, the West Monroe Recycling Center collected an impressive 324,507 pounds of recyclable materials thanks to the efforts of our community! These materials included:

• Cardboard: 149,356 lbs
• Paper: 119,482 lbs
• Plastic: 28,150 lbs
• Glass: 6,915 lbs
• Steel (Tin) Cans: 7,400 lbs
• Aluminum Cans: 6,640 lbs
• Foil & Cat Food Cans: 1,121 lbs

Every item recycled helps conserve natural resources, reduce landfill waste, and keep West Monroe clean and beautiful. Thank you to everyone who continues to do their part by recycling. Your efforts make a difference every day!
