Bridging the gap from Friday to Monday. ❤️

Our Weslaco Lions Club volunteers came together to shop, sort, pack and prepare bags for our Bridge to Monday | Puente hacia Lunes project.

Each bag is filled with food and snacks to help families with children have something to get them through the weekend when school meals aren’t available.

It may look like a table full of brown paper bags… but to us, each bag represents a family, a child, and a little extra peace of mind going into the weekend.

We’re grateful for every Lion who gave their time, every helping hand, and everyone who has supported this project including WISD, Valley Nature Center, and Levi Strauss (Mercedes Outlet Store).

Being a Weslaco Lion means being a part of an international association. We serve is our motto and we carry out our mission in our community, our area, our state and across the world.

Our Club has committed to doing our small part in responding to the tragedy in Nepal by sending a $1,000 donation to Lions Clubs International Foundation and designating it for the disaster response underway by the Lions of Nepal.

Every person has the opportunity to help those in need and Lions Clubs International ensures that we can do that for our neighbor down the street or our neighbors on the other side of the globe.

Service is the foundation of our organization. It’s at the very root of what we do and who we are as Lions. Meaningful service fuels growth, increases our impact and strengthens our communities and our world. It’s why people join us — and why they stay.

That’s why my presidential theme this year is “Rooted in Service.” I encourage all of us to reconnect with our Lion roots and focus on what matters most. Get creative with your service. Have fun. Look for new ways to meet the needs of your communities. And remember, no act of service is too small — every effort makes a difference.

“The Ray Hughston Humanitarian Award is bestowed honor an outstanding Lion of District 2-A3 who has given usefully of his/her time, talents and means to further the cause of humanitarian service.”

The Weslaco Lions Club is proud to announce that at the District 2-A3 Convention this past weekend, Second Vice District Governor William Castillo presented the Award to PDG Laura Jane Clark.

Our Lions District 2-A3 Convention included our annual announcement of the newest Ray Hughston Humanitarian Award. This award is for members from only our District and is open for nominations from across the District each year.

This year's awardee is PDG Laura Jane Clark from the Weslaco Lions Club .

PDG Laura has been a member of the Weslaco Lions Club since 2008 and has served her Club, the District and the Multiple District in various leadership positions. She currently serves as the District 2-A3 Cabinet Treasurer, District 2-A3 Texas Lions Foundation Trustee, Club Service Chair, Guiding Lion and is Co-Chair of the MD-2 LCICon 2030 Host Committee.

PDG Laura is the recipient of the Leader Dogs for the Blind Founders Tribute, a Texas Lions Foundation Cornerstone Club member, a Texas Lions Camp Century Club member, a Texas Lions Camp Life Member, a 100% District Governor for the Texas Lions Camp and Ed Flood Award recipient for the Texas Lions Foundation. She also has a Membership Key for her sponsorship of new Lions with Lions International and was honored with a resolution from the State of Texas House of Representatives for her volunteer work with Lions Clubs International.

Lion Laura is a progressive Melvin Jones Fellow of the Lions Clubs International Foundation, a progressive Jack Wiech Fellow of the Texas Lions Camp, a Texas Lions Foundation Fellow, an Everett J. “Ebb” Grindstaff Fellowship of the Texas Lions Museum and State Office Foundation, and has received Presidential Certificates of Appreciation from International President Dr. Naresh Aggarwal (2017-18) and International President Brian Sheehan (2022-23). She is also a recipient of the Presidential Medal from International President Fabricio Oliveira (2024-2025) and the Leadership Medal from International President Gudrun Yngvadottir (2018-19). Lion Laura has also received a Certificate of Accomplishment from Lions Clubs International Foundation as a 100% Club Support District during her term as District Governor (2023-24) from LCIF Chairman and Past International President Brian Sheehan.
