The KARE House

The KARE House KARE is a 501c3 registered non-profit and serves as the Children's Advocacy Center for Haywood County

Haywood County has over a thirty year history of combatting adverse childhood experiences. Noted as the number one county in the state of North Carolina for numerous years, the community became determined to remove this title. Key individuals throughout the county worked together to develop a volunteer-based school safety program for elementary school students. As the school program began to grow

and the need for trauma-informed services became more prevalent, the Haywood County Child Abuse Task Force was formed. Utilized to provide a community-coordinated response to child abuse and neglect, the task force looked to ensure open communication between those responding to investigations. At the same time, the children's advocacy center movement was occurring throughout the nation. As an avid businessman and a visionary in the Waynesville community, Robert Forga along with his wife, Viola, made a child advocacy center possible in Haywood County. The family's vision and dedication to children led them to provide the space for the KARE House. Formally known as "The Robert Forga Family KARE House", the space has allowed for hundreds of children and families to receive services in a space resembling a residential structure. The living room, toys, and lack of structured space, provide a warm and relaxing space for families who utilize the services provided by KARE. As of 2018, KARE is currently out of the top ten counties for child abuse and maltreatment reports.

โ˜€๏ธ Summer brings more time for fun, adventure, and making memoriesโ€”but itโ€™s also an important reminder to look out for the children in our community. Knowing the signs and speaking up when something doesnโ€™t seem right can make all the difference.

Did you know North Carolina law requires any person or institution to report suspected child maltreatment?

This free online training teaches citizens and professionals the signs and symptoms to look out for with child abuse and neglect, what to do when they suspect it is happening, NCโ€™s reporting law, and what happens after a report is made.

๐Ÿ’™ May is Law Enforcement Appreciation Month ๐Ÿ’™

This month, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated law enforcement officers who work tirelessly to protect and serve our community every single day.

At KARE, we are especially thankful for our partnership with local law enforcement. Your commitment to seeking justice, supporting children, and working alongside us to create safer futures does not go unnoticed.

This week, we had the privilege of hosting a breakfast for our local law enforcement officers as a small token of our appreciation. It was a wonderful morning filled with great food, good conversation, and an opportunity to personally thank the men and women who faithfully serve our community each day.

Thank you for your courage, compassion, and unwavering service.
