Yesterday, AFSP NJ was proud to participate in the Asbury Pride Parade and Festival, joining thousands of people in celebrating love, inclusion, and community. πŸŒˆπŸ’™

Our team marched in the parade and spent the day connecting with attendees at our vendor table, sharing mental health and su***de prevention resources, information about our programs, and ways to get involved in our mission.

It was especially meaningful to see so many of our community partners, supporters, and sponsors represented throughout the event. Your commitment to creating safer, more connected communities helps make conversations around mental health possible.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, shared their stories, picked up resources, or simply said hello. Together, we’re building a culture where people know they are seen, supported, and never alone.

Research tells us that Black men are experiencing increasing rates of su***de in recent years. πŸ’™

By integrating digital health strategies, such as ecological momentary assessment (EMA) using smartphones, to assess individuals’ experiences in social environments, including instances of racial discrimination, the goal is greater understanding of experiences that increase Black men’s risk for su***de.

Assemblywoman Andrea Katz published a powerful op-ed in NJ.com sharing her personal story of losing her mother to su***de and why New Jersey must continue investing in mental health crisis services.

Assemblywoman Katz has been a vocal champion for mental health, su***de prevention, and strengthening New Jersey's crisis response system. We were honored to have her join us during a recent legislative walkthrough of one of New Jersey's Crisis Receiving and Stabilization Centers, where she saw firsthand the impact these services have on individuals and families in crisis.

As New Jersey continues to strengthen the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline and the broader Crisis Continuum of Care, advocates and policymakers must work together to ensure that help is available when and where it's needed most.

Thank you, Assemblywoman Katz, for your leadership, advocacy, and commitment to improving mental health care across our state. πŸ’™

What an incredible day at our Construction Hike for Hope! πŸ’™πŸ₯Ύ

On Sunday, advocates, industry professionals, families, and community members came together to raise awareness for mental health and su***de prevention in the construction industry.

The construction community faces some of the highest rates of su***de among all professions, making conversations around mental health, support, and hope more important than ever. Every step taken on the trail was a reminder that we are stronger when we come together, support one another, and break the stigma surrounding mental health.

Together, more than 250 people joined us and helped raise over $65,000 to support AFSP's mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by su***de.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, sponsored, donated, and helped make this event possible. Because of you, we are building a culture where it's okay to ask for help and where no one has to struggle alone.

πŸ“… Save the Date: Construction Hike for Hope returns on May 16, 2027!

In 2024, su***de-related deaths were four times higher among males than females.

This , let’s remember that seeking help is a sign of strength. By supporting one another, fighting su***de, and challenging stigma, we can build a future where no one suffers alone.
