Meet the Faces Behind Survivor Day: Jim Langley đź’™
As we approach International Survivors of Su***de Loss Day on November 21, we're highlighting the dedicated volunteers who help create a space for connection, understanding, and healing.
Today, we're introducing Jim Langley, a Warren County volunteer who has been involved with AFSP New Jersey for four years.
Jim's connection to AFSP is deeply personal. After losing his father, Leonard, to su***de 34 years ago, Jim found inspiration at the 2022 Long-Term Survivors of Su***de Loss Summit in Cleveland. The people he met and the experiences shared motivated him to become more involved in supporting others navigating similar losses.
Through his involvement with Survivor Day, Out of the Darkness Walks, and AFSP's Healing Conversations program, Jim has discovered the power of sharing stories and simply being there to listen.
đź’¬ One lesson Jim hopes others will carry with them:
"Talking about my experience and listening to the experiences of others are essential tools in helping process grief and promote healing."
For Jim, volunteering has become part of his own healing journey while allowing him to help others find hope along theirs.
