Women are responsible for half of the world’s food production, but structural barriers including less access to land, credit, agricultural inputs, and markets mean that women living in rural areas suffer disproportionately from multi-dimensional poverty.

To help women farmers -- like María a mother of five who lives in San Carlos, Nicaragua -- Self-Help International extension staff provide training and support, as well as biofortified seeds, increase their harvests and food security for their whole families.

On the International Day of Rural Women, we celebrate women's knowledge and leadership in building a more resilient future.

When girls are safe, educated and empowered, they don’t just transform their own lives, they help build healthier families, stronger communities and more peaceful, prosperous societies.

Yet, around the world, almost 4 in 10 adolescent girls and young women do not finish upper secondary school.

This International Day of the Girl Child, we highlight the Self-Help International Teen Girls Club. Because of the Teen Girls Club, teens like Elizabeth, from Bedabour in Ghana's Ashanti Region, are empowered to stay in school and complete their education.

The protein found in eggs supports healthy growth and development in children and adolescents.

In Ghana, Self-Help International's Growing Healthy Food, Growing Healthy Children program helps women like Zakiya, from Fankamawe in Ghana's Ashanti Region, add eggs to their children's diet to improve their nutrition and well-being.
