This orphaned baby Pine Marten arrived at our animal hospital this week after being found on a rural property near Ashern, MB. And oh my, is she ever cute! ❤
The rescuers were helping friends move back into a log cabin when they noticed signs of activity inside. When they went outside later to turn on a propane tank, they discovered a baby Pine Marten lying in the grass, crying and alone.
They left her overnight in hopes the mom might return, but by morning she was still in the same spot, crying and clearly in distress.
Recognizing she needed help, they brought her inside and placed her in a cardboard box. She appeared very hungry, suggesting she had been without care for some time.
The rescuers have been monitoring the property using a live camera to watch for any signs of the mother, but so far there have been no sightings. Ultimately, they made the decision to ensure she received specialized wildlife care and the best possible chance to survive and thrive. They drove her to Assiniboine Park & Zoo’s Wildlife Rescue & Drop-off, and she was then transferred to our animal hospital.
She is now receiving full-time support, including a specialized feeding schedule of formula five times daily and small meat feedings every three hours. She is doing well and is full of little “talks” and sounds!
We are so grateful for the rescuers’ quick action, kindness, and care in stepping in to help her when she needed it.
