Beacon Center
United Way is a true partner to Beacon Center, helping us provide critical support to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. While much of our federal and state funding is restricted to specific direct services, many essential costs of operating a 32-bed shelter fall outside those funding guidelines. United Way helps bridge that gap, providing flexible funding for the everyday expenses that keep our shelter safe, operational, and available to those who need it. United Way dollars stay local, directly supporting our neighbors during some of their most difficult moments, and we are so grateful for the support of Watertown Area United Way!

Girls on the Run South Dakota
What does United Way mean to you?
To EmBe/Girls on the Run South Dakota, United Way represents what can happen when a community comes together to make a difference. Through their support, Girls on the Run is able to reach more girls and remove barriers that might otherwise keep them from participating. It’s a reminder that when we invest in our youth, we are investing in the future of our entire community.

Tell us about one person whose life was changed because of your program.
One of the most meaningful parts of Girls on the Run is seeing a girl discover confidence in herself. I think of a girl who came into the program feeling a little unsure of herself and, over the course of the season, began speaking up, trying new things, encouraging her teammates, and believing in what she was capable of. By the end, it wasn’t just that she crossed the 5K finish line—it was the confidence she carried with her. That is the kind of transformation that makes Girls on the Run so special.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Dolly Parton, whose generosity, compassion, and love of children have touched millions of lives around the world. 💗

Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, her vision has helped put books into the hands and hearts of children and families, including right here in our community.

Her legacy will live on in every child who opens a book, discovers a new world, and learns to dream a little bigger.

Thank you, Dolly, for believing that every child deserves the opportunity to grow, learn, and imagine.

Rest in peace, Dolly. Your kindness will continue to inspire generations. 📚❤️

Global icon and humanitarian, Dolly Parton, known to the world as a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old.

Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Carl Thomas Dean (1942 – 2025), her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens (1923 – 2003), and father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr. (1921 – 2000).

A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.

At Dolly’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family. Dolly’s fans and friends from around the world are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging or by leaving a message at www.dollyparton.com

What a great morning! Over 40 kids have visited so far and they had FREE Admission to the Zoo, thanks to First PREMIER!

Come visit us, the Zoo is open until 4PM!
