You think exercise, drills, are not necessary to become an excellent clay target sports athlete? I suggest you invest 12 min a day into this type of routine. Try my famous "soup can" exercises - and for Varsity athletes, use 3-5 lb barbells. Start with 5 min a day. Build muscle memory, balance, flexibility, response time. Try it. I dare you!

I want y'all to think about this: If the dog keeps its total focus on the dummy/bird, it will retrieve it. If it takes its eyes off the bird, it's Lost!

If you take your eyes off the bird/target, and look at your barrel, you miss the target!

Keep your focus on the bird!

This is why your vision exercises are so important! Extend your arm, stick your thumb up, and focus hard on your thumb. Then, move your focus out to a point a distance away, and focus on that. Then bring your focus back to your thumb. Do this a few times, then stop, rest your eyes. Soft focus is a critical component to seeing the target correctly!

TIP OF THE WEEK Sponsored by claytargetinstruction.com
SOFT FOCUS by Zachary Kienbaum

On long developing targets, a common mistake is seeing the target too well, too soon. Consider that it takes three or four seconds to reach the break point. If we achieve hard focus as quickly as possible, we lose hard focus by the time the target reaches its break point. Try keeping your eyes on a broad area at the distance of the target while calling pull. This helps you keep the target in view without it being the focus too soon. As the target approaches the break point, shift focus to the target and ratchet up your intensity.
