There’s something special about being outdoors—it teaches us lessons that go far beyond the activity itself. Teamwork builds confidence, respect builds character, and the great outdoors gives us the space to grow.

Whether we’re working together toward a common goal, encouraging a teammate, or simply enjoying the beauty around us, every experience is an opportunity to learn, lead, and make memories.

Success isn’t just about being the best—it’s about supporting one another, showing respect, staying focused, and having FUN along the way!

Get outside. Work together. Respect each other. Make memories. And enjoy the adventure!

A Parent’s Recommendation Means Everything!

When it comes to our kids, safety comes first. That’s why hearing from parents who have experienced Alaska YESS firsthand means so much to us.

Youth clay target sports are about far more than learning how to shoot. Through proper instruction, close supervision, safety rules, and responsible equipment handling, young people develop skills that can benefit them for a lifetime.

FOCUS teaches young athletes to slow down, concentrate on the task at hand, block out distractions, and stay committed to achieving their goal.

DISCIPLINE teaches them that success doesn't happen by accident. It comes from listening, following instructions, practicing consistently, being accountable for their actions, and continuing to work even when something is challenging.

These are lessons that extend well beyond the range. Focus and discipline can help young people become better students, teammates, leaders, and members of their communities.

Our coaches and volunteers work hard to create an environment where safety is not just a rule—it’s the foundation of everything we do. Youth learn to follow range commands, handle equipment responsibly, respect others, and take responsibility for their actions.

And when a parent tells another family, “My child had a great experience with Alaska YESS—you should check it out,” that recommendation carries tremendous weight.

Parents trust us with what matters most: their children. We are proud to earn that trust every day.

THIS is why academics are a strong focus in our program! This is what I teach our Varsity Team: The Team is #1. If you support the team, you will find that your personal performance will be better supported. When all the members of the team, athletes and coaching staff as well, know that you are 100% committed it creates cohesiveness, builds excellent character and work ethic. Be serious about your academics! You should have an idea of what you may want to do when you graduate before the end of your Junior year! It's ok to explore options, but you should have it narrowed down to 2, maybe 3 possible choices. Look up the university online and see what they offer academically, socially, community safety, student support. Make sure you understand team expectations, amenities, travel, practice, firearm storage, etc prior to signing. Asking these questions will also tell the coach you have thought this through, that you know how important it is to understand your responsibilities and the team set-up. What you expect to get out of your collegiate experience is important, but in this moment that coach is trying to determine in less than 5 min whether he thinks you might be a good "fit" for his team!

I will never forget the day a collegiate coach told me "Lindy, I can teach a kid to shoot, but I will not try to change their character at this point in their life." He basically told me that was my job until they turn 18! 🤣

What he was telling me was time and again he recruited a kid that was shooting in the high 80s over a 100-straight phenomenon, and all because of their character! So don't sell yourself short during these calls or when applying to a collegiate team, and don't think you're "not good enough." Contact me for more information and help with application processes!

Do you know of a school-directed trade skills program that might include learning to paint the exterior of a building? Our s***t houses at 7th Summit Shooting Park need to be painted this summer! Hoping to make it a youth project that will help them practice trade skills for their future!
