SUNY Broome Community College barred InterVarsity Christian Fellowship from campus because the ministry requires its leaders to be Christian. But public colleges don’t get to choose who leads a religious group.

We’re asking the court to protect InterVarsity’s rights as the new school year begins.

WASHINGTON – A public college has told a Christian student ministry it may operate on campus only if it is willing to let non-Christians lead its prayer, worship, and Bible teaching. Becket filed a federal lawsuit earlier this month on behalf of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship after SUNY Broome ...

Religious symbols don't need to be scrubbed from the public square. When an atheist group sued to remove a mountaintop statue of Jesus honoring World War II veterans, the Knights of Columbus and several individuals fought back. With Becket’s help, "Big Mountain Jesus" still stands—11 years after a Ninth Circuit victory.

Los Angeles merchants have preserved Olvera Street's cultural history for generations. Now, they want to defend the street's historic cross and nativity in court. More on this fight to save these symbols of faith and history in EWTN:

A Los Angeles resident has sued the city government alleging that the displays violate the establishment clause of the U.S. Constitution.

A new book from Becket’s William Haun is coming this fall—and you can preorder it now. 📖

"Not to Caesar but to Peter: Why the Catholic Church is a Perfect Society" explains how the Catholic Church’s claimed legal authority provides a stable basis for religious liberty in civil law.

Haun argues that if the Church remembers this traditional claim of legal authority, that understanding can improve U.S. law’s commitment to protecting religious liberty for religious institutions and communities.

Drawing on the Catholic Church’s self-understanding as a complete, self-sufficient (in the Aristotelian sense, “perfect”) society, Not to Caesar but to Peter explains how the Catholic Church’s claimed legal authority provides a stable basis for religious liberty in civil law. If the Church w...

A historic cross on Los Angeles’ Olvera Street is under attack, even though it has been part of the community’s history and culture for generations. Becket’s Andrea Butler explains why it should remain in the public square. Fox News

Christian student groups should be able to choose their own leaders without facing school punishment. But SUNY Broome Community College didn't get the memo and has denied InterVarsity USA campus recognition. Becket’s Colten Stanberry tells Family Research Council why the college's decision is nonsensical. 👇

In an effort to erase religion from the public square, an activist wants LA's historic Olvera Street cross torn down. We asked the Ninth Circuit to let the merchants who've kept this living tradition alive for generations defend it in court. Read more in TheBlaze:

The radical wants to tear down the nearly century-old cross because he finds it offensive.

A nearly century-old cross and a beloved Christmas nativity are under legal attack on Los Angeles’ historic Olvera Street. Yesterday we asked the Ninth Circuit to let a group of Olvera Street merchants join the case and defend the living traditions their families have preserved for generations.

History shouldn’t be wiped from the public square just because it’s religious. The city should be free to keep its full story—cross, nativity, and all. Learn more about our filing: https://becketfund.org/media/los-angeles-merchants-fight-to-save-historic-cross-and-nativity/

One year ago today, a federal court ruled that Minnesota cannot discriminate against religious schools or the students who choose them. The ruling allowed faith-based schools to participate in the state’s Postsecondary Enrollment Options program and high school students to use the funds toward an education that aligns with their beliefs.
