Proud to visit with Rep. María Elvira Salazar and Congresswoman Veronica Escobar — and with Carlos and Angela Della Valle! Salazar and Escobar coauthored the Dignity Act, which provides a pathway for spouses of US citizens to stay together and other fixes to our broken immigration system. Thank you!

Proud to stand with Rep. María Elvira Salazar and Congresswoman Veronica Escobar who have been powerful leaders on finding solutions for our families — and especially for Angela and Carlos Della Valle. Thank you!

AFU Action is back on Capitol Hill for Day 2 of our fly-in! Follow along here as our members talk to senators on both sides of the aisle about the damage that congressional inaction on immigration reform is doing to our families. What would you say to a senator about immigration reform?

We're in DC this week and we brought 20 Americans from 15 states to meet with their own members of Congress. None are lobbyists/activists. They are spouses, parents, & workers. Advice needed: what helps someone walk into Congress for the first time and tell their story?

AFU Action is on Capitol Hill for the next three days (June 3-5) to tell Congress to pass the Dignity Act.

We came with 20 Americans from 15 states. They are U.S. citizens whose spouses, parents, and children are facing deportation or have already been separated from them. Over two days, they will walk into more than 50 congressional offices across the Senate and House. Seven groups, back to back, all day Thursday and Friday, telling their own stories to the people who write our laws.

We are asking every representative to cosponsor the Dignity Act, or if they have already cosponsored it, to speak out more. This bipartisan bill already has 39 House cosponsors, 19 Republicans and 20 Democrats. It would give families a legal path to stay together.

The families in those offices are fighting for the 1.4 million American families across the country who also risk being separated, or already are, because our broken immigration system doesn't provide a pathway to status for our spouses.

Follow us here for updates through Friday. If you know someone in a mixed-status family who needs information or support, visit afuaction.org.

There is an acknowledgment from Republicans and Democrats in Congress that the status quo cannot remain.

The Dignity Act is a solution. I believe the best time for reform was long ago, the second best time is right now.

Angela Del Valle is a U.S. citizen, a public school teacher and a mom. Her husband Carlos has lived in the U.S. for almost 30 years, but was detained by ICE in 2025 and remains in detention now. "My husband is not a criminal. He just lacks status…The Dignity Act provides that," Angela said, alongside American Families United at the ABIC Action press conference in D.C.

AFU member Angela Della Valle stood with Democratic Senator Mark Kelly and Republican Rep. María Elvira Salazar this morning and told her story as an American citizen trying to get her husband Carlos out of detention so he can go through available legal processes at home. Angela, who has spent months traveling the country to support her husband, represents years of Congress's failure to pass basic immigration fixes. Angela is one of the 1.4 million US citizens who are married to immigrants that have no pathway to legal status. If passed, the Dignity Act would provide a possible pathway for couples like Angela and Carlos who shouldn't have to choose between the people they love and the country they love. The entire AFU family stands firmly with Angela and all of our impacted members through this time of fear and uncertainty. SHARE ANGELA'S STORY TODAY. ❤️ ABIC Action Bring Carlos Home
