Folks, listen -- Have you felt powerless to fix our spouses' legal status? Burned out pushing for immigration fixes that never came?

If that's you, I have a message for you: we need you. And we need you now.

We have a chance to force Congress to vote on the Dignity Act when they come back into session next month. But the only way to make this happen is for us to stand together, make the calls, and talk to our elected officials about what this would mean for our families.

If you haven't come to our Monday night calls in a while, I'm asking you personally to please come back. Give me your next four Monday nights to learn about how we can move the Dignity Act closer to reality.

The Dignity Act includes the AFU Act, which no other piece of legislation addresses: it provides a pathway to status for our spouses who are barred from every other way to stay in the country, and provides a way for loved ones abroad to return home.

But the Dignity Act does much more than that. It also:

- Gives long-term, law-abiding immigrants who have lived here for years, worked and paid taxes a process to earn work permits and legal status.
- Creates a path to a green card for Dreamers who were brought here as children.
- Keeps American families together, so U.S. citizen spouses, children and parents don’t have to choose between their family and their country.
- Strengthens our economy and protects American workers.
- Fixes key parts of the asylum system so cases are decided fairly and quickly.
- Supports border security and public safety.

This isn't just for AFU Action members or mixed-status families — this is for EVERYONE who supports the Dignity Act and wants to see Congress do its job and pass bipartisan reforms.

Some critics say the Dignity Act (H.R. 4393) is not good enough because the dignity pathway does not lead to citizenship. Ashley DeAzevedo, Executive Director of AFU Action, responds that Congress has not passed comprehensive immigration reform in decades, and that the real question is whether this bill is progress, not whether it is perfect.

What does the dignity pathway in the Dignity Act (H.R. 4393) actually do? Ashley DeAzevedo, Executive Director of AFU Action, explains.

The pathway is for long-term immigrants already living in the United States who have no other claim to a visa: no immediate relative and no work visa that would let them adjust their status. It gives them the ability to work and to travel in seven-year renewable periods.
