Young people should have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives. They should also have meaningful opportunities to shape those decisions.

Across East and Southern Africa, FP2030 Youth Focal Points are contributing to national policies, family planning plans, and commitments.

In Rwanda, Alliance Ishimwe helped establish the country's first FP2030 Youth Working Group.

In Tanzania, Ninabina Davie contributed to family planning and adolescent health planning.

In Namibia, Puvitanda Hengari helped bring youth priorities into national processes.

In South Sudan, Emmanuela Dwatuka Arkangelo Ngoni contributed to the country's Family Planning Policy and Communication and Advocacy Strategy.

Across East and Southern Africa, Youth Focal Points are helping bring young people's priorities into policy, planning, and decision-making.

From Rwanda, where youth advocacy contributed to efforts to lower the age of medical consent from 18 to 15, to Tanzania, South Sudan, and Namibia, the new FP2030 report highlights how young people are influencing national policies, plans, and commitments.

These experiences show what meaningful youth participation can look like when young people have real opportunities to shape decisions that affect their lives.

Young people are leading change across East and Southern Africa. 🌍

Across 11 countries, more than 300 advocates were trained to strengthen youth leadership and advance family planning and sexual and reproductive health and rights.

The numbers are only part of the story. The new FP2030 report highlights young people building advocacy skills, engaging decision-makers, and bringing youth priorities into national and regional processes.

At , FP2030 joined UNFPA and the Gates Foundation to convene leaders, governments, and philanthropic partners around a critical question:

How do we secure sustainable financing for reproductive health commodities and ensure people can access the contraception and care they need?

The answer came with a major collective commitment: more than US$715 million pledged for reproductive health.

The commitments from governments and partners—including Burundi, Madagascar, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe—show what is possible when countries, donors, and global partners come together to strengthen financing and expand access to essential reproductive health supplies and services.

From commitments to action.

At , partners came together to advance sustainable financing, country leadership, and accountability for family planning and reproductive health.

More than US$715 million in commitments were announced at FP2030 and UNFPA's “Investing in the Future” event. Across countries, partners are also translating commitments into financing strategies, stronger accountability, and action.

Building a shared agenda for sustainable financing

On the sidelines of , FP2030 joined PAI PMNCH and MSI Reproductive Choices to bring civil society together for a conversation about the future of family planning financing — and what it will take to navigate a rapidly changing financing landscape.

The discussion highlighted several priorities:

🔹 Work together more strategically. Different organizations bring different strengths and relationships. Better coordination can help turn shared priorities into collective action.

🔹 Make financing mechanisms easier to understand. Civil society needs clear, timely information about mechanisms such as UNFPA Supplies and the GFF's Sustainable Commodities Access Program (SCAP) as well as clear entry points for engagement, to advocate effectively for country priorities.

🔹 Strengthen domestic and diversified financing. Sustainable financing will require action across domestic resources, global financing mechanisms, private-sector engagement, and other sources.

🔹 Invest in civil society, too. Civil society organizations are being asked to monitor commitments, engage governments, advocate for resources, and bring community perspectives to financing discussions — even as many organizations face their own financial constraints.

As Samu Dube, FP2030 Executive Director, put it:

“No organization is going to achieve the gap that we have currently when they are working alone.”

The conversation was a starting point for identifying shared priorities and opportunities for continued collaboration — with the goal of building a more sustainable, country-led financing landscape for family planning and SRHR.
