Discipline in the present, not motivation or good intentions, is what shapes the person you become later. The work has to happen now, even when nobody's watching.

That's what we try to instill in DMV youth through mentorship, the habit of doing the work before the results show up.

At 14, Dave Chappelle started performing in DC clubs, years before the world knew his name. Somewhere along the way, a mentor noticed his talent and helped him sharpen it.

That's the part people forget. Before the specials and the awards, there was just a kid who needed someone to believe he had something worth building.

A young person can have all the potential in the world and still get pulled under by a neighborhood, a school system, or a household that isn't set up to support them.

Mentorship works because it doesn't try to fix the child, it changes what surrounds them.
