We're on the lookout for Community Moderators to help keep our spaces safe, welcoming, and worth showing up for. It's a fully remote, flexible volunteer role with real leadership experience and a front-row seat to building something for the Bengali diaspora. If that sounds like you, the full details and application are below. 👇

Bangla Collective is looking for Community Moderators to help guide and protect our online spaces. We need people who are calm under pressure, fair-minded, and genuinely care about keeping a community healthy.

WHO WE ARE:
We are a DC-based marketing agency and digital media platform built to connect, empower, and elevate the Bengali diaspora. We run Bangla Bulletin, Bangla Events, and Bangla Directory, reaching thousands across the US and the global diaspora. Our communities are growing fast, and that growth only works if the spaces stay safe, welcoming, and worth showing up for. That's where you come in.

Why does this role matter?
→ You'll help shape the culture of an entire ecosystem of communities, not just one group.
→ You'll be the friendly, trusted presence that makes new members feel like they belong.
→ You'll build real leadership experience: handling tricky conversations, making fair calls, and protecting people.
→ You'll work directly with the Bangla Collective core team and grow with us as we scale.

What you'll actually do:
→ Welcome new group members and keep conversations warm and on-topic
→ Keep our Facebook groups, pages, Instagram comments, and WhatsApp channels respectful and spam-free
→ Step in on hate speech, harassment, scams, and misinformation
→ Flag and escalate sensitive issues to the core team (you're never alone on the hard calls)
→ Help surface useful events, resources, and opportunities for the community.

Let's be honest about what this is:
This is a volunteer role. We're not going to pretend it's a paycheck. But here's what you actually get:
→ Real, resume-worthy community leadership experience
→ A reference and recommendation from a growing media organization
→ A behind-the-scenes look at how a diaspora media platform gets built
→ A flexible commitment that fits around your life,
→ Recognition as a founding member of our moderation team
→ And the intangible: knowing you helped build a safe, kind corner of the internet for your community.

Time commitment:
Flexible. As little as 15 to 30 minutes a day, or a couple of hours a week. You tell us what works.

This role is for you if:
→ You're already the person who keeps the group chat civil
→ You can stay calm and fair when a thread gets heated
→ You notice a conversation turning toxic before it blows up
→ You care about the Bengali community and want a hand in shaping it
→ You want leadership experience that actually means something.

This role is NOT for you if:
→ You want to push your own opinions or win arguments
→ You can't stay neutral when topics get political or personal
→ You can't commit even a little time, consistently
→ You take moderation personally instead of protecting the community.

If you're still reading, you might be exactly who we're looking for.
