Celebrating the Impact of Black-Owned Businesses

August is National Black Business Month, a time to recognize the important role Black-owned businesses play in our communities and our economy by creating jobs, building wealth and opening doors to opportunity.

According to U.S. Small Business Administration figures based on 2018 data, there were more than 3.2 million Black-owned businesses across the United States, employing more than 1.18 million workers.

Behind those numbers are entrepreneurs, families and communities working to build stronger financial futures and create opportunities for generations to come.

NeighborWorks Waco is proud to recognize the contributions of Black entrepreneurs and business owners and the important role they play in strengthening communities across Central Texas and throughout the country.

August is National Preparedness Month

National Preparedness Month is a great time to take small steps to make a big difference in being prepared. Getting yourself, your family, and your home ready for emergencies like home fires, power outages, and local floods means you’re more prepared for disasters.

We all have responsibilities for our families, pets, neighbors, and communities. By taking steps now, you can be in control of both your safety and those you care about before, during and after a disaster.

Think about what you’ll need and how the people in your social circles can help each other. A great place to start is by knowing the risks where you are. Then, make a plan and build an emergency supply kit to help keep yourself and those you love safe and comfortable during and after a disaster. Finally, get involved by keeping up to date with your community’s emergency and disaster plan and working with neighbors to prepare.

Celebrating National Nonprofit Day

Today, on National Nonprofit Day, we’re celebrating the power of community and the difference we can make when we work together.

For more than 30 years, NeighborWorks Waco has helped individuals and families pursue their dreams of homeownership, strengthen their financial futures, and build lasting connections to the communities they call home.

But we don’t do this work alone.

You can support NeighborWorks Waco by spreading the word about our homeownership and financial education resources, referring a friend or family member who could benefit from our services, partnering with us in our work, or making a contribution to help us continue serving our community.

Every connection, every partnership, and every act of support helps us continue opening doors to opportunity for our neighbors.

On National Nonprofit Day, we thank our clients, partners, supporters, staff, and community for believing in our mission and helping us make a difference right here in Central Texas.

NeighborWorks Waco was proud to join the Waco Housing Authority Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program to help participants take steps toward their financial and homeownership goals.

Karen Saucedo, Vice President and CFO of NeighborWorks Waco, shared valuable information and resources with participants, including ways NeighborWorks Waco can support individuals and families as they work toward greater financial stability and prepare for homeownership.

We were also happy to sponsor lunch for the group and spend time connecting with participants.

Thank you to Waco Housing Authority for the opportunity to be part of a program that equips local families with resources to build toward their goals. We’re always glad to partner in efforts that strengthen families and our Waco community.
