IAEP Local 77, representing the professional Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics of Volusia County, proudly endorses Mike Poniatowski for Volusia County Council At-Large.

Mike has deep roots in public safety and a longstanding commitment to the men and women who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting our communities. His extensive experience in emergency medical services provides him with a firsthand understanding of the challenges, responsibilities, and sacrifices faced by frontline emergency responders.

Mike began his career in emergency medical services in 1979 as a Reserve EMT with Beacon Ambulance. What started as a passion for helping others quickly developed into a lifelong commitment to public service. Through years of dedication, hard work, and leadership, Mike rose through the ranks, ultimately serving as the Director of EMS Operations for EVAC Ambulance from 2003 to 2011.

Throughout his career, Mike has demonstrated a commitment to public safety, emergency medical services, and the community he proudly calls home. His experience and understanding of the EMS profession provide a valuable perspective on the importance of supporting the dedicated professionals who answer the call for help every day.

IAEP Local 77 is proud to stand behind Mike Poniatowski as he seeks to continue his service to the residents of Volusia County.

🛟 The Volusia County Council presented a proclamation to Volusia County Beach Safety Lifeguards Dempsey Manhart and Mackenzie Malone, declaring Sept. 22, 2026, as "Dempsey Manhart and Mackenzie Malone Day" in Volusia County.

On July 29, Manhart heard a bystander's cries for help near the Silver Beach approach and found a 5-year-old boy unconscious and bleeding after being struck by a wave. He carried the child to shore, where Malone joined him. Finding the boy without a pulse, the two performed CPR together until he became responsive, buying critical time for additional lifeguard EMTs and Volusia County EMS to arrive.

The child was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center and later Arnold Palmer Hospital and was released the next day with no known lasting effects.

Thank you to Dempsey and Mackenzie for their quick thinking, skill and dedication. 🌊

A 9-month-old boy is recovering after a Volusia County Beach Safety sergeant helped clear the child's airway during a choking emergency Wednesday afternoon in Daytona Beach Shores. ⬇️🔗

On Wednesday, 9/2/2026, just after noon, a male was found unresponsive in shallow water. First responder lifeguard EMTs immediately responded and initiated full lifesaving efforts. The male was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time.

Always swim in front of a staffed lifeguard tower.
