To those of you who didn’t know Sheriff Roy Bassett, he wasn’t just a sheriff. He was the person who went to check on the vulnerable elderly in his time off. I’m sure that isn’t all of the good deeds he was known for. His memory lives on and he is greatly missed. Maries County Sheriff’s Office
This week, we recognize and honor National Police Week which started in 1962 by President Kennedy as a time to remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and to show our continued support for those who serve today.
Here in Maries County, we pause to remember our own, Sheriff Roy Bassett, the Maries County Sheriff, gave his life in the line of duty while protecting the citizens of this county.
Law enforcement officers face challenges and dangers every day, often without recognition, but always with a commitment to protect and serve their communities. We especially honor those who gave everything in that service. Sheriff Bassett’s sacrifice will never be forgotten, and his legacy lives on through those who continue to serve and protect today.
To all deputies in our county and others and all law enforcement professionals across the nation ,past and present, thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your choice to serve and protect our communities.
