Hello everyone,
I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful summer. As we transition into fall, it's important to start planning for this year's burns. If you have a burn you would like to conduct, please submit your burn plan to the designated Gmail account for review and inclusion on the list.
Additionally, if you require assistance with fire line preparations, don't hesitate to send a message via GroupMe to inform fellow members. The sooner you prepare your lines, the better positioned you will be to take advantage of burn days, especially considering the limited quality burn days we've experienced in recent years.
If you require burn plans, it is advisable to contact local private land conservation organizations and request to be added to their list, as the completion of these plans can be time-consuming. I would like to thank Mark Stewart for attending and completing the burn plan preparation workshop earlier this month; I am confident he will be available to assist with one or two plans. Please keep in mind that the development of these plans can require a significant amount of time to get them done correctly.
Next month brings several important events. On September 13, we will participate in the Taste of Osage at Linn City Park from 10 AM to 2 PM, where our trailer and table will be present.
Following this, we will hold our board meeting from 3:30 to 4 PM, followed by the annual member meeting from 4 to 6 PM at the First Baptist Church in Vienna.
This year, we will be electing a Vice-Chair, Treasurer, and three at-large board members.
Please mark your calendars for the upcoming Prescribed Burn Prep and Spot Fire trainings at the Geller property near Englewood, southeast of Columbia. The Burn Prep Training is scheduled for Friday afternoon, October 24, and the Spot Fire Training will take place on Saturday, October 25, with backup dates set for Sunday, October 26, Saturday, November 8, and Sunday, November 9. Further details and registration information will be provided soon.
Additionally, Ryan will be hosting an invasive species workshop at Carver Farms on September 6, followed by a burn workshop on November 7 at the same location.
I eagerly anticipate another successful burn season and the opportunity to attend as many burns as I can. As the temperatures begin to drop, it's essential to start preparing, as dedicating a few hours here and there can significantly reduce the pressure down the road.
Thanks
Ryan Westcott
