💛 MEMBER MONDAY!! 💙
This week, we’re highlighting Julie Patton Johnson with Keller Williams Realty, who serves as our President-Elect! Get to know Julie a little better as she shares why giving back to Vicksburg is so important to her, the Kiwanis project closest to her heart, and her hopes for the year ahead.
1. If you could encourage one person in our community to get involved, what would you say?
“I would tell them that you don’t have to do something extraordinary to make an extraordinary difference in someone’s life. Sometimes it’s simply showing up, lending a hand, or letting someone know they matter.
Vicksburg has given me so much, both personally and professionally, and I believe we all have a responsibility to give a little of that back. Kiwanis gives us the opportunity to do just that, alongside some truly wonderful people.
And here’s the beautiful thing about serving others: You join thinking about what you can give, but you quickly discover how much you receive in return.”
2. What is your favorite Kiwanis service project?
“My favorite Kiwanis service project is reading to children. There is something so special about sitting down with a child, opening a book, and watching their imagination come to life.
I believe reading opens doors to a world of possibilities. A simple story can spark curiosity, build confidence, and inspire a child to dream beyond what they know today.
What I love most is that we aren’t just reading words on a page. We’re giving children our time, our attention, and the reassurance that they matter.
If spending a little time reading to a child helps foster a lifelong love of books, then that’s a pretty wonderful investment in our community’s future.
Sometimes the smallest gestures leave the biggest impressions.”
3. What are you most excited about for the upcoming Kiwanis year?
“I’m most excited about the opportunities we haven’t even imagined yet! New friendships, new projects, and new ways to make a difference in the community we all call home.
I love that Kiwanis brings together people from different backgrounds, professions, and walks of life who share one common purpose: making our community better.
Vicksburg is a special place, but what makes it special isn’t just its history or its beautiful surroundings. It’s the people.
I’m looking forward to another year of rolling up our sleeves, working together, sharing a few laughs, and hopefully leaving Vicksburg just a little better than we found it.
Because at the end of the day, a strong community isn’t built by what we have. It’s built by what we give.”
