Last week we said goodbye to Charlie Thorpe, our Director of Government & Leadership Programs, as he re-enters into retirement. 🙌
He was instrumental in this year’s government affairs efforts with candidate interviews, the Candidate Forum, and the Property Tax Forum. Charlie worked hard sending out weekly informational briefings that kept our business community informed and led robust initiatives on topics such as disaster preparedness and AI.
Charlie also pushed the Leadership Programs forward, adding new people and places for our groups to learn from and about. And who could forget the new alumni co****le tournament!
From Savannah, our Member & Foundation Programs Director, who worked closely with Charlie: "Trying to measure Charlie’s impact feels almost impossible. His wisdom and compassion is woven into every corner of the Chamber, our Foundation, and our leadership programs, but his real legacy lives in the people he guided along the way. To me, Charlie was far more than a supervisor or advisor; he was a father-figure in the office and a true mentor whose lessons I will carry for the rest of my life. He didn’t just teach me how to manage projects or handle complex policies; he taught me how to be a better human being. Through his daily example, I learned patience, kindness, integrity, and the power of uplifting a team. He brought out a passion for this work that I didn't know I had. While it’s hard to imagine the office without his constant encouragement, I am so excited for his next journey and know that wherever he goes, extraordinary leadership and mentorship will follow."
Charlie didn’t have to come out of retirement, but we’re glad he did and chose to work for us! We wish him all the best in 2nd retirement! ❤
