VNC Real Florida attendee's participated in an Audubon-guided check of rookery Purple Martins' nests to see if eggs have hatched! We got to see adorable hatchlings with your own eyes up close! Barbara and Bob Zittel, Audubon members and co-chairs and co-coordinators of the Venice Area Audubon Society's Purple Martins Project educated us about the lives of the beautiful and interesting birds called Purple Martins. We learned that they are found only in North and South America, that they need human assistance with nesting habitats in today's modern world, and about the conservation effort regarding them conducted by our local Audubon community. After a half-hour presentation, we proceeded outside at 11 AM to conduct a nest check. We lowered the suspended fabricated "apartments" and checked the multiple nests to observe and count eggs and hatchlings, some of them being newborns (pinkies)! The data collected informed the conservation effort and we had the thrill of discovering eggs or hatchlings.

The annual Venice Newcomers Club Membership meeting was held at Plantation Golf & Country Club on Thursday, April 9th at 6:00 p.m. This important event is an essential part of VNC.

The evening started with a champagne welcome! After everyone was seated we introduced the new VNC officer candidates. This is the moment we elected the board members for 26-27. We also had an opportunity to thank the 2025-2026 board for their outstanding leadership during this past year!

After the brief elections, everyone enjoyed a festive tiki-themed buffet. Entertainment for the evening was the local award-winning band Johnny D and the Rockets 88! We danced the night away together as we celebrated all the new friends we have made through Venice Newcomers Club!

VNCer's Pulled on our leather boots and dusted off our Stetson hats for a rootin tootin Western themed Spirit Tasting at the home of Julius and Jennifer Moreland!

Friday, APRIL 17TH, 2026
6:00PM to 9:00 PM

This Cowboy Cocktail Party was all about creative specialty cocktails and western themed foods.
Think recipes that are whiskey-forward, such as an
Old Fashion, Ranch Water, Sweet Tea Smash
or Mezcal or Tequila based drinks such as variations on Margaritas.

Food dishes that were Tex-Mex or ranch menu items
such as tacos pico de gallo, cowboy caviar,
Dutch oven cobblers or crisps.

To make this event even more fun, folks were asked to wear
"Cowboy chic" attire.
Women wore lace dresses with boots, denim jackets over outfits, fringe, and statement turquoise/silver jewelry.

The men wore Fitted pearl or snap shirts, dark jeans (like Wrangler Rancher), leather belts, Wide-brim hats, bolo ties, and neck handkerchiefs.

Venice Newcomers College Spring Break Beer Tasting Bash

6:00 – 8:00 PM

Attendees broke out their flip flops and channelled their inner college self. We had a nostalgic night of brews, bites, and backyard-style fun! We turned back the clock for a College Spring Break–themed Beer Tasting Bash at the Brown’s home.

Think: Beer Pong. Quarters. Heads Up. Keg Stands. Red Solo Cups.

It was all the fun of spring break… with much better company and earlier bedtimes.

Each guest was asked to bring:

A 6-pack of your favorite “college beer”paired with a food item that complements your brew.
Everyone had a great time reliving the good ol Glory Days!
