The PA Christmas Tree Growers Association (PCTGA) represents over 250 growers of Pennsylvania Christmas trees and provides education, marketing, and research assistance to growers within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The PCTGA is the official supplier of real Christmas trees to all State Offices in the Capitol Complex in Harrisburg and the State Christmas tree located in the Capitol Rotunda. As tree growers, the PCTGA works to promote the use of Real Trees. The Real Tree industry involves an estimated 100,000 people ranging from Scouts on a corner lot to farms planting and harvesting thousands of trees each year. The industry is busy year-round and growers are constantly replenishing the trees sold the previous year. The PCTGA also helps fund research projects that enable the industry to grow better, healthier trees.

Today is World Sustainability Day, and Christmas tree farmers have a great story to tell. Real Christmas trees are grown on farms, planted year after year, and support local jobs and land stewardship. Thank you for the work you do to care for the land and grow something that brings joy to so many homes each winter.

Dear PCTGA Members,

The Pennsylvania Christmas Tree Growers Association Board of Directors supports the continuation of the Real Christmas Tree Board and encourages eligible members to VOTE YES in the upcoming second referendum.

A no vote will assure the fake tree industry's unchecked control of the Christmas tree market.

The Secretary of Agriculture has called for a second referendum on the future of the RCTB following an extremely close first vote and a voting period with fewer business days than the standard timeframe. USDA is funding this second referendum. The referendum will determine the future of the RCTB.

If this program goes away, it will never come back.

The RCTB was created to help improve the future of the REAL Christmas tree industry by increasing the value and demand for cut Christmas trees through promotion, research, and education. While the Board cannot control supply, tree quality, individual sales, retail setup, distribution, or pricing, it does provide something our industry cannot easily build on its own: a consistent national voice for REAL Christmas trees.

Over the past decade, the RCTB has:

• RCTB unveiled the ACTA to the media through a multi-year effort (that continues) – exposing them as not “neutral” or as being a reasonable source for information on real Christmas trees.

• Established a national platform for promoting real Christmas trees with consistent, positive messaging.

• Become a leading media resource for Christmas tree coverage, helping ensure REAL Christmas trees are represented fairly.

• Provided growers and retailers with marketing tools such as the Retail Locator, social media assets, photos, guides, and media training.

• Invested in paid digital search and social media promotion to reach consumers where they search for information and inspiration.

• Funded more than $2.4 million in over 75 research projects focused on production issues, tree quality, market access, and cost reduction.

• Supported education efforts such as Virtual Farm Trips, which have reached more than 115,000 students through live Christmas tree farm tours.

We need meaningful research that directly addresses the problems facing Christmas tree growers; we cannot simply assume universities or extension programs will have the funding to do it. Financial support for Real Tree studies at universities is vanishing. Our industry needs to invest in that research ourselves, and the Real Christmas Tree Board enables us to do so.

For those reasons, the Pennsylvania Christmas Tree Growers Association Board of Directors supports the Real Christmas Tree Board and encourages all eligible members to VOTE YES in the upcoming referendum.

🌲 That’s a wrap on the 2026 PCTGA Summer Conference! 🌲

We finished out our final day at Mytrysak Family Tree Farm with another great lineup. The morning included a digging demonstration with Lee Squires (Tree Equipment Design), a shearing demonstration with Gary Thomas, wreath making with David & Marcia Hicks (Christmas Tree Farmers Association of NY), and a fun round of Farm Safety Jeopardy with Stacey Mullen.

And a huge thank you to Brad Edwards (NC) for jumping in and helping with the shearing demonstration! We always appreciate growers who are willing to step up, share their knowledge, and help wherever needed.

What a great few days of learning, sharing ideas, catching up with old friends and making new ones! Wonderful to see NEW growers entering our industry.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who attended, our presenters who shared their time and knowledge, our vendors and sponsors who continue to support our association, and especially the Mytrysak family for opening their farm to us and being such wonderful hosts.

These meetings are only as successful as the people who show up, participate, and are willing to share with one another and we are incredibly fortunate to have such a great community of Christmas tree growers.
