If you would like to re-zone a property, now until August 2nd is the time to make the request, so it can be incorporated in the King County Comprehensive Plan.

King County is starting work on its next update to the Comprehensive Plan (due in 2029), and we’re inviting the public to help shape what’s included. A draft scope of work is now available for review.

This document outlines the topics that could be included in the midpoint update, the plan for environmental review, and how community members can get involved throughout the process.

For this 2029 Midpoint Update, the county is proposing to focus on three major areas:

Climate Change & Resiliency

Shorelines

Housing

The scope of work also includes general updates that don’t fit neatly into one of these focus areas.

Public comments on the scope of work are welcome through August 2, 2026. You can send feedback to [email protected].

Burning residential yard waste is currently allowed on Vashon-Maury islands, causing poor air quality and increased risk of wildfires.

That practice may soon change:

“The Puget Sound Clean Air agency staff are soliciting input from stakeholders and the public to raise awareness of this upcoming change, and to understand what resources can help people who currently burn their yard waste make the transition to other methods.”

Learn more about the proposed rule change and opportunities for public comment here:

Based on requirements in state law, PSCAA is considering the proposed changes described on this page. The current rules for yard waste are still in effect. Information about the existing rules can be found under our Residential Yard Waste Burning FAQs, in Regulations WAC 173-425-040, RCW 70A.15.50...
