From the very beginning, it was our mission to be a magazine FOR the autism community BY the autism community. It was important that the majority of our writers and contributors be autistic themselves. Our advisory board is made up of valued community leaders who have provided their autistic input, advice and direction.
In 12 issues over 3 years, we focused on positive and realistic solutions, inspiring personal stories, and, most importantly, gave voice to autistic individuals and the family members who support them on their journeys.
Our mission will not only continue but expand.
Zoom Magazine is continuing as a quarterly digital magazine but now in a mobile-friendly, responsive blog format for even greater accessibility and reach. We are now a part of Geek Club Books—the nonprofit that uses innovative storytelling to end the stigma of autism, replacing fear with wonder, and awareness with acceptance.
In addition to our quarterly editorial, Zoom will publish more timely news—conferences, featured books, advocacy updates—along with Geek Club Books robust autism community blog and our joint social media.
Autistic contributors will lead the way.
Both Zoom and Geek Club Books exist to empower autistic individuals and give them a platform for their own creative expression. With this next phase of Zoom, we are excited to announce:
· Each issue will have an Autistic Guest Editor who will manage and oversee its production.
· We will compensate all Autistic Guest Editors, Cover Story Writers, Feature Writers and Columnists for their work.
· We welcome submissions from writers who do not identify as autistic on a volunteer basis.
We hope that you join us on this next phase of Zoom’s journey. Thank you for being one of our loyal supporters! We look forward to the launch of our next issue coming this April.
