🚒🔥 Fire Safety & Prevention Education at James R. Tate Elementary! 🚒🔥

Today, District 6 Fire Department, alongside the Van Buren Fire Department, had the opportunity to visit James R. Tate Elementary School to provide students with valuable fire safety and prevention education!

🔥 Fire prevention starts with education! Teaching children about fire safety at an early age helps them recognize potential dangers, understand what to do in an emergency, and develop habits that could one day save lives.

We are proud to partner with our neighboring fire department to help educate the next generation and promote fire safety throughout our community.

A special thank you to the staff and students at James R. Tate Elementary for welcoming us, and to the firefighters from both departments who helped make this event possible!

Working together to build a safer community, one student at a time! 🚒❤️

One more quick video from Saturday’s training. At noon without the windows being covered. A Thermal Imaging Camera is a great tool when used and trained with properly.

Quick announcement too until we get more rain expect the burn ban to be back on very soon.

Today was a great day of training. District One, District Six, and District Seven all came together this morning to conduct hose advancing, searches, and vertical ventilation from an aerial. It’s a great partnership these departments have here in Crawford County. This training was conducted to build skills and prepare some of the new firefighters joining our ranks in each department. Thank you guys for showing up on a Saturday morning to train. Thank you to all the instructors for pouring knowledge back into these young firefighters. Always a pleasure to be involved with District One and District Seven.

OUTDOOR BURNING SAFETY REMINDER

While Crawford County is not currently under a burn ban, we want to remind everyone that conditions can still allow a controlled burn to quickly become an uncontrolled fire.

Our department has already responded to two grass fires today that started from outdoor burning. In both cases, people were present and monitoring the fires when they got out of control.

Being outside with your fire does not guarantee that you will be able to contain it. Dry grass and vegetation can ignite quickly, and even a small change in wind can push fire beyond your control in a matter of seconds.

📞 Before conducting a controlled burn, please call Crawford County Dispatch at 474-8000 and report your burn prior to lighting the fire.

If you choose to burn:

• Call Dispatch at 474-8000 before you begin burning.
• Check the weather and wind conditions before lighting anything.
• Avoid burning on windy or unusually dry days.
• Keep a reliable water source, hose, or other extinguishing equipment immediately available.
• Never leave a fire unattended.
• Keep the burn area clear of dry grass and other combustible material.
• Make sure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area.
• If the fire begins to spread beyond your control, call 911 immediately—do not wait until it becomes a large fire.

⚠️ No burn ban does not mean no fire danger.

Please use good judgment and help us prevent avoidable grass and wildland fires. A controlled burn can become uncontrolled very quickly and threaten homes, property, livestock, and lives.

Please share this reminder with your friends and neighbors.

BURN BAN LIFTED

The Crawford County Burn Ban has officially been LIFTED, effective 9:00 AM today, October 2, 2026, by Crawford County Judge Chris Keith.

Residents may now burn, but please continue to use extreme caution and burn responsibly.

Outdoor Burning Safety Tips:
• Check local city regulations and make sure a permit is not required before burning.
• Only burn when weather conditions are safe, and do not burn during high winds.
• Keep your burn pile small and away from buildings, fences, trees, power lines, and other combustible materials.
• Have a water hose, buckets of water, or other firefighting equipment readily available.
• Never leave a fire unattended—even for a short time.
• Keep children and pets a safe distance from the fire.
• Avoid burning household garbage, plastics, tires, or other materials that produce hazardous smoke.
• Completely extinguish your fire with plenty of water before leaving the area. Stir the ashes and make sure there is no heat or smoke remaining.
• If conditions become windy or the fire starts spreading, call 911 and move to a safe location.

⚠️ Remember: Some incorporated cities within Crawford County may have additional burning requirements or require a burn permit. If you live inside city limits, check with your city before burning.

Please stay safe and burn responsibly!

Last night, members of the District 6 Fire Department played a game of bunker gear basketball. This training is a great way for the firefighters to practice conserving air as well as ensuring fine motor skills can still be performed while wearing full structural firefighting gear. The guys had a blast and it was a great training!

🔥 BURN BAN REMINDER 🔥

Just because we are getting a little rain does NOT mean the burn ban has been lifted.

Please remember that burning is not permitted while the county burn ban is in effect. We must wait until conditions improve and the Crawford County Judge officially lifts the burn ban before outdoor burning can resume.

A little rain may help, but it does not necessarily mean conditions are safe for burning. Dry vegetation, wind, and low humidity can still create dangerous fire conditions.

🚫 Please do not burn until the burn ban has officially been lifted.

We appreciate everyone doing their part to help prevent wildfires and keep our community safe.

🚨 WHEN TRAINING AND TEAMWORK MATTER MOST 🚨

We would like to recognize Captain Brayden Polk for his actions during a 9th-grade football game where a young player went into cardiac arrest.

Captain Polk quickly recognized the seriousness of the situation and stepped in to assist. Another individual initially began CPR, and when additional help was needed, Captain Polk assisted with the resuscitation effort. The training staff obtained the AED and prompted the shock, while Captain Polk placed the AED pads on the player.

This was truly a team effort involving Captain Polk, the training staff, coaches, and those who immediately stepped in to help. Everyone played an important role in responding to a critical situation and providing care until additional medical resources could take over.

As firefighters and first responders, we understand the importance of recognizing an emergency, staying calm, working together, and putting training into action. Captain Polk’s experience and training allowed him to step in and help when it mattered most.

We are incredibly proud of Captain Polk, but just as importantly, we want to recognize everyone who responded and helped that young athlete that day. It is a great example of what can happen when coaches, training staff, officials, and others work together during an emergency.

Most importantly, we are extremely thankful to hear that the young player is now stable and expected to make a full recovery. We continue to keep him, his family, the coaches, training staff, and everyone involved in our prayers as he recovers.

This is what teamwork, preparation, and training are all about. Great job to everyone involved! ❤️‍🩹🚒
