The Kiwanis/Rotary Clubs Veterans Appreciation Dinner committee were delighted to present financial support to Honor Flight Chicago, a non-profit which recognizes veterans with trips to Washington D.C.

We're proudly Indiana: corn, cars, and basketball. This Wednesday at noon, we'll welcome the Valparaiso Community Schools High School and Valparaiso University Basketball Coaches for a pre-season presentation. This is always one of our most popular meetings of the year, and a perfect time to come visit and see if Kiwanis might be for you. See you Wednesday at noon at First Christian Church on Glendale in Valparaiso.

Thank you to Dona Henry, Chairman of the Chicago Street Theatre Board, for visiting our meeting last week. She gave us an intimate history of the organization and invited us to this season's productions. This is the last weekend to catch Arsenic and Old Lace, so treat yourselves to some theater!

It is officially the Year of Jessica!
Today we welcomed Jessica Wilson into the role of 26-27 Club President, along with President Elect Kevin Pressel, Vice President Jon Miller, Treasurer/Secretary & Past President Ahna Campos, and Immediate Past President Kevin Hagen. It's always exciting to start a new year with new club leadership and new energy!

Last week, we were excited to present the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana with an $8000 check so they can purchase bicycles to give to member kids at their Christmas to Remember event. We can't wait to see those kids' faces light up.

The last meeting of September means the Changing of the Guard at our club, where we thank folks who served in a leadership capacity over the past year, and welcome aboard others taking their places. Flip through the photos for details, but a special thank you to Immediate Past President Kevin Hagen, and an excited round of applause for our 2026-2027 Club President, Jessica Wilson. Thank you also to Lt. Governor Elect of the Lakeshore Division, Bryon Mesarch, for performing the inductions.

Our fundraising events are always loads of fun, but here's the main reason we do them. Last week, the Valparaiso Kiwanis Foundation was able to donate $10,000 to the Special Olympics of Porter County with proceeds from the Lorrie Woycik Special Kids Golf Classic. Our club supplemented this with an additional $2,000, to bring the total to $12,000. This is our why.

There's something about Football. Kiwanians just love talking about football with our local teams' coaches. And why not? They're compelling, entertaining, and spirited speakers. Thank you to Paul Oren of The Victory Bell, Head Coach Bill Marshall of Valparaiso Community Schools, and Head Coach Andy Waddle from Valparaiso University, along with Brandon Vickrey, Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications at Valparaiso University. It's always a pleasure to have you visit our meetings.

Last Wednesday, the Valparaiso Kiwanis Foundation presented its annual Volunteer of the Year program. This ceremony recognizes extraordinary volunteers, nominated by the organizations they work with.

This year, we congratulate Mike Porter for being named Volunteer of the Year for his ceaseless and selfless work with Hilltop Neighborhood House. We made a $1000 donation to Hilltop in his honor.

Michelle Richardson with Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana
Laura Limczak with Reins of Life - Therapeutic horseback riding (Sadly, unable to attend)
Barb Shelton with Dressed For School Porter County
Dolly Phadke with Porter County Aging & Community Services
