No, Orville Redenbacher did not grace us with his presence today. That fella in the bow tie is Rev. Brian E. Konkol, Ph.D., the 20th President of Valparaiso University. He spoke to us of the renewed energy and steadfast loyalty at the university, which he compared to a large tree with "roots and reach." His excitement for his new role and optimism for the University are infectious.

He was joined by John Prizner III, the new Vice President of Advancement at Valpo. It was a pleasure to have their company today.

The community is welcome to Rev. Konkol's official Inauguration on September 25th at 3 pm at the Chapel of the Resurrection. Let's give these gentlemen a proper welcome!

What a night! We hope you all had a good time at the Corn Roast! The Kiwanians and family members listed below provided financial support to the Valpo Kiwanis Corn Roast Fest and we are so grateful to them. It takes a village to make this fundraiser such a success, and we can always count on our Valparaiso Noon Kiwanis Club to come through. Thank you all.

This week we presented 3, count 'em, 3 checks to local organizations. What a way to celebrate our successful fundraisers.

First, we presented Bruce Steffen of the American Legion with a check to support students headed to either Hoosier Boys State or American Legion Auxiliary Hoosier Girls State, a longstanding Indiana program to teach high school Juniors the ins and outs of state and local government. Several of our current leaders attended these fantastic programs!

Next, we presented a donation to Madison Criswell of Reach Out and Read and Dr. Aubrey Coleman of Associated Pediatricians to help fund their initiatives to promote children's literacy starting at birth. Kasandra Tenbarge, the Associate Director of First Things First Porter County joined them to celebrate the donation.

And finally, directly from the Lorrie Woycik Special Kids Golf Classic, we were able to make a donation to help fund Opportunity Enterprises's Camp Lakeside. Thank you to Jane Kobak, Donor Relations Manager for coming.

Phew! Let's keep it going!
