Welcome to Hart Square, the nation's largest collection of original, historic log cabins.
🪵 100 preserved structures dedicated to Southern Appalachian heritage. Hart Square Foundation preserves cultural heritage through living traditions, both past and present
We celebrate the rich diversity of crafts, trades, and practices of our region. The foundation preserves and shares the nation's largest collection of historic log cabins known as Hart Square Village, an open-air museum of 103 original structures constructed between 1760 to 1880. All of these structures tell the larger story of American history and the specific story of North Carolina's regional heritage.

On November 5, Vintage House Restaurant will welcome Hart Square and our community to the table for A Taste of 1776: A French-American W**e Dinner. This dinner features a unique, multi-course dinner and curated w**e pairing that is not to be missed, but it is about more than what is on the table, it's a collaboration in support of the mission of Hart Square Foundation.

From beginner to experienced dancer, all are welcome on our dance floor as you learn to
"promenade" and "do-si-do" to the sounds of oldtime music provided by Hickory Music Factory's String Band.

The exploration of basket weaving continues at Hart Square on November 7th. Join us to learn to weave a tall reed "catch-all" basket.
Leave it plain, or make it holiday themed by decorating the basket with a choice of trees!

Cabin Fever Ale is back! Olde Hickory Brewery will be on site today at the 41st Fall Heritage Festival serving up this collaborative brew.
Cabin Fever will also be available at Olde Hickory Brewery, Olde Hickory Station, and the Tap Room.
Olde Hickory Brewery will donate $1 per pint or 6-pack of Cabin Fever that is purchased, so let's toast to historic preservation!

This Saturday, experience a Hart Square Village Autumnal celebration, the annual Fall Heritage Festival. For the 41st year, the cabins are bustling with docents, craftspeople and musicians. The village comes alive with the sounds, aromas and flavors of 1800s America.

New to Hart Square? Hart Square Village is open year round; home to the largest collection of historic log cabins, offering a truly unique experience. Each cabin tells a story, and there is an adventure around every corner. The Fall Heritage Festival is a special time where not only are all cabins open, but hundreds of historians, artisans and demonstrators bring the village to life. We are located in the foothills of North Carolina, in Vale. We can’t wait to show you the magic of Fall in the village.
