What happens when the job you were promised isn’t the job you’re given?

Recruitment fraud can leave workers vulnerable before exploitation even begins. When someone travels far from home based on false promises, they may have fewer resources or options to push back when the reality doesn’t match what they were promised.

These can all be signs of forced labor:

🚩 Deceptive recruitment
🚩 Withheld documents
🚩 Threats or intimidation

🚩 Debt
🚩 Coercion

What a great night!
Thank you to everyone who came out to Lansing for the event last night.
Thank you to Michigan Department of Attorney General Dana Nessel for the powerful opening remarks and moderating the panel discussion.
Thank you to the 3 incredible panelists who clarified the need for laws that Support Survivors and Hold Buyers and Traffickers accountable. Their passionate testimonies helped us understand why we need harsher punishments for perpetrators, criminal record relief for Survivors and better protections for trafficked youth.
Thank you to the Commission Board members for your work advancing anti-trafficking efforts in our state.
Thank you to the Zonta groups that helped with making the event run smoothly.

Lastly, thank you to Asst. Attorney General Melissa Palepu for tirelessly working with and for Survivors in court to help gain justice in cases. Thank you for leading the Commission and getting the Board to full capacity.
