Exploring Agriculture in Medina County!
Last week, the Leadership Medina County Signature Class of 2027 had an incredible Agriculture Day, filled with hands-on experiences, meaningful conversations, and a deeper appreciation for the hardworking people and businesses that make agriculture such an important part of our community!
We kicked off the day at the Medina County Fairgrounds, where the class enjoyed a delicious breakfast generously sponsored by First Financial Bank. We had the opportunity to hear from Chuck Stiver and Anna Himmel about the hard work, dedication, and heart that go into making the Medina County Fair such a special tradition. Catie Noyes-Johnson from OSU Extension also shared the incredible impact of 4-H and the opportunities it provides for our youth.
Our next stop was Boyert Show Cattle, where Jake Boyert, Clayton Boyert, and Zane Gross from the Ohio Beef Council gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the world of show cattle and the dedication it takes to raise and care for these animals.
From there, we traveled to Boyert's Greenhouse & Farm, where we learned about the history and growth of this wonderful family business while enjoying a beautiful tour of the greenhouse. We also enjoyed a delicious, locally sourced lunch prepared and sponsored by the Medina County Farm Bureau, showcasing the amazing products grown and produced right here in our community! A special thank you to the Medina County Sheriff's Office for the sweet ice cream treat!
Next, we visited Geig's Orchard, where Kelly Geig shared the history of their family orchard and gave us insight into the work and care that go into growing apples, grapes and peaches!
Our final stop was Rupp-Dale Farm in Seville, where we had the special privilege of seeing their impressive rotary milking system in action! It was fascinating to learn how technology and innovation are helping improve efficiency and operations on a modern dairy farm.
Throughout the day, our class gained a greater understanding of the dedication, innovation, and passion that drive Medina County's agricultural community. From family traditions to modern technology, agriculture continues to play a vital role in shaping our county!
A heartfelt THANK YOU to our generous sponsors, dedicated committee members, knowledgeable speakers, and wonderful hosts for sharing your time, expertise, and passion with us. Your support and hospitality made Agriculture Day an unforgettable experience for the Signature Class of 2027!
