I recently had the joy of spending time with our Medina ESOL students, who visited our Medina BookShelf The BookShelf by Project: LEARN of Medina County as part of our Learning in Action segment of class. Many thanks to our volunteers, Julie and Bonnie, for their warmth and support and for helping our students browse the shelves and find books they wanted to take home.

Afterward, our students shared something that made me smile: they had learned a new word during our outing—“browse.” They told us they now feel more confident using that word when they shop.

This is what learning looks like.
A new word.
A little more confidence.
And a world that feels just a bit bigger.

One of my favorite quotes from my years in the classroom says it beautifully:

Thank you for helping us create more opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and expand their world.

Happy Friends of the Library Week!

Project: LEARN and The BookShelf would like to thank the Medina County Commissioners for recognizing October 18–24 as Friends of the Library Week in Medina County.

Project: LEARN is proud to advocate for libraries throughout Medina County. Our library partners help us extend learning opportunities to more people, including adults working toward their GED and individuals improving their English through our ESOL programs.

Thank you to our county commissioners, library partners, and the volunteers who help keep these valuable community resources thriving.

Project: LEARN is a steward of books, a champion of literacy, and a friend of our libraries!

Visit your local library this week and celebrate the people who make it special!

The observance recognizes volunteers who have supported nearly $700,000 in Medina County District Library programs since 1998.

Sometimes the best learning happens outside the classroom. ❤️

Our ESOL students and their families spent a beautiful day at Majestic Meadows, a local alpaca farm here in Medina County. The weather was perfect for sunshine, fresh air, and, of course, plenty of alpacas! 🦙☀️

At Project: LEARN of Medina County, we believe adult education is about more than what happens during class. Our personalized approach gives students opportunities to build connections, discover new places, and learn alongside one another in ways that make language and commUNITY come to life.

We love exploring Medina County, and we’re already looking forward to our next adventure! 💙

It’s National Adult and Family Literacy Week — and this week, Ohio’s Aspire adult education programs are celebrating Adult Education Week.

As an Ohio Aspire program, Project: LEARN of Medina County provides free adult education to adults living and working in Medina County. We’re proud to celebrate the courage, determination, and achievements of the adult learners we serve.

Sometimes, you have to bet on yourself.

For the adults who walk through our doors to prepare for their High School Equivalency, that decision can take courage.

Maybe they’re finishing something they started years ago. Maybe they’re opening a door to a better job, a college degree, a new career, or simply a goal they’ve carried with them for a long time.

At Project: LEARN, we know that learning is about more than books, calculators, and lessons.

It’s about having a safe place to learn.
It’s about instructors who care.
It’s about being supported when something feels difficult.
And it’s about having someone believe in you while you learn to believe in yourself.

Our students tell us again and again that our instructors and team support and encourage them every step of the journey. They know they don’t have to do it alone.

Since July 1, two of our students have already reached their High School Equivalency goals! We couldn’t be prouder of them — and of all the adult learners we serve.

This week, we celebrate them — and every adult who chooses to keep learning, growing, and believing in what’s possible.

It’s never too late to bet on yourself.

One of the greatest joys of my role at Project: LEARN is spending time with our students and having the privilege of being part of their journey.

Recently, we took advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoyed a wonderful brunch with our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students. It was a morning filled with conversation, laughter, and authentic language practice. Experiences like these help build confidence as students use English in real-world settings while forming meaningful friendships along the way.

A special thank you to our incredible ESOL instructor, Sherry Baldwin, for creating such a thoughtful and creative learning experience. From the beautiful table inspired by the language of flowers to the warm, welcoming atmosphere, every detail encouraged curiosity, conversation, and connection.

Learning English is about so much more than vocabulary and grammar—it's about building confidence, creating community, and opening doors to new opportunities.
Sincere appreciation to the team at First Watch for welcoming our group so warmly and helping make the morning enjoyable for everyone.
Moments like these remind me that education changes lives, one conversation, one connection, and one student at a time. 💙📚

There are few moments in our year more meaningful than celebrating the accomplishments of our adult learners.

At our Student Awards Ceremony, we recognized individuals who bet on themselves and returned to the classroom to earn a high school credential, build new skills, improve their English, prepare for a new career, and create brighter futures for themselves and their families.

It has been a true privilege to walk alongside our students on their educational journeys. Their determination, resilience, and willingness to embrace new opportunities inspire me every day.

To our students: congratulations! We are incredibly proud of all you have accomplished and grateful that you allow Project: LEARN of Medina County to be part of your journey.

Thank you to our dedicated instructors, tutors, volunteers, staff, board members, donors, and community partners. Your encouragement, generosity, and belief in our students make these success stories possible.
