Recent funding cuts, economic challenges, and shifting federal policies have created challenges for North Coast Opportunities (NCO), but the organization’s core services remain fully operational and continue serving the community.
Programs including Head Start, Early Head Start, Rural Communities Child Care, Visión Family Resource Center, Redwood Caregiver Resource Center, Mendo-Lake Food Hub, the Build Program, and Lake County Home Hardening continue to provide critical support to local families and residents.
As NCO works to navigate these challenges, several programs have been scaled back, including Caring Kitchen, Gardens Project, Healthy Mendocino, Leadership Mendocino, and Walk & Bike Mendocino.
The organization is actively exploring opportunities to restore impacted programs where possible and appreciates the community’s continued support and understanding during this transition. Please click this link to read the full press release.

We're gearing up for our annual Free Sports Physicals and Back to School Fair. Mark it on your calendars - Saturday, July 11, 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. at our Redwood Medical Clinic and plan on joining us!

It's one of our favorite community outreach events and we can't wait to see everyone. Aside from sports physicals, we will also have a Back-to-School Fair filled with school supplies and information booths for all students and their families.

This free event is designed to help students get ready for the 2026–2027 school sports season with no-cost sports physicals for school-aged children. Since sports physicals are required for student athletes participating in school sports, this is a great opportunity to check it off your list early. Sports physicals are valid for a year.

Families can also explore our Back-to-School Fair under the big tent featuring:
Backpacks & school supplies
Community resources
Free health screenings
Family-friendly activities
…and more!

No appointment needed — first come, first served. Parent or guardian consent is required for youth athletes. Mark your calendars now — more details coming soon!
