Sarah Reith reports on a meeting about the County’s proposed new evacuation route on the east side of Ukiah, which would serve 300 homes in Deerwood Estates, El Dorado Estates, Vichy Springs, and the Guidiville Rancheria.

Residents’ concerns were solicited and collected. Far more needs to be done, including securing funding, finalizing the design, environmental review, permits, easements, and more. Even if those go smoothly, actual work is unlikely to begin before 2030, but an alternate evacuation route will provide a potentially life-saving option of escape in case of wildfire or other disasters.
