🌀 Peak Hurricane Season Is Here

August through October are typically the most active months of Atlantic hurricane season. Now is the time to make sure your family, workplace, and crews are prepared before a storm threatens.

Review emergency and communication plans, check vehicles and equipment, replenish storm-response supplies, and monitor forecasts from trusted sources. Preparation now can make a major difference when communities need help restoring power and recovering after severe weather.

Safety is about more than rules and procedures. It is about preparing people for the challenges they may face on and off the job.

At our recent Safety Alliance meeting, participants shared lessons learned from safety incidents and discussed mental health and su***de prevention, safety culture, and training for the unexpected, including valuable perspectives from law enforcement. OSHA also shared information and resources from its Safe + Sound campaign.

A big thank you to our speakers Katie Deal with MATES and Officers Toby Nix and Denver Atwood with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Department and to everyone who participated and helped continue the conversation around practical ways to protect our workforce and strengthen safety across our industry.

August Theme: Hard Hats & Hot Days

August is bringing the heat, and we want to see what a hot day on the line really looks like, while keeping the focus on working safely in extreme summer conditions.

Send us photos that capture crews putting in the work under the summer sun. Whether it’s linemen in the bucket, crews on the ground, or teams taking the necessary precautions to protect one another from heat-related injuries.

Photos should clearly feature the line trade and highlight the hard work and dedication of our crews, while reinforcing the importance of hydration, heat awareness, proper PPE, rest breaks, and looking out for one another during the hottest part of the year.

We know you have all been anxiously waiting to find out who won July’s Line Life Photo Challenge, so without further delay, congratulations to Eddie Gibbons! 🇺🇸⚡

July’s theme, “America’s 250th: Proud to Power the Nation,” comes to life in this incredible shot taken at Eglin Air Force Base.

The photo captures a crews performing energized work while changing out a dead-end structure near the end of the runway, with fighter jets flying overhead throughout the day. It is a powerful look at the skilled men and women keeping our nation powered alongside those who help protect it.

Congratulations to Eddie on another winning submission, and thank you to everyone who participated!

Safety is a team effort.

August 10–16 is Safe + Sound Week, a nationwide initiative recognizing the people, programs, and practices that help create safer and healthier workplaces.

In the outside electrical construction industry, safety depends on everyone. It requires strong leadership, open communication, worker participation, and a commitment to identifying and correcting hazards before work begins.

This week, SLCC recognizes our member contractors and the men and women in the field who make safety a priority every day. Thank you for doing your part to protect yourself, your crew, and everyone on the jobsite.

The social media girl was on vacation, but she’s back now, and we cannot miss the opportunity to celebrate our Executive Director!
