The next dancer in our series of Arise Dancer insights is our wonderful creative director, April Hatton!
A lifelong dancer, April has used her gifts of creativity, artistry, wisdom, and grace in each of her endeavors, and we are so blessed by her leadership!
Here are her insights into her experience with Arise this Spring:
1. What has been the most meaningful piece to you this Spring? Why?
- "That would have to be 'Revelations'! When the Lord gave me the idea for us to dance to pure scripture from Revelation, it felt exciting and intimidating, and once we started rehearsing, it has challenged me continuously. 'Revelations' also contains a lot of purpose and hope to me personally. I pray that it is expressed and captured by the audience members."
2. Where have you seen growth in your artistry this Spring?
- "I have been stewing on the idea of bringing these biblical stories to life for the past couple of years. I think, as an artist and choreographer, we're tapping into a different style, and it demands particular techniques when you are sharing stories. Something I keep reminding our dancers this semester is that it's not just the movement; you must also express the character and emotion that comes with that person. So, that has been a challenge and growth I've seen us all tackle."
3. Describe a specific moment that captures your experience dancing with Arise this Spring?
- "The first Arise rehearsal we had this semester, I was blown away by the favor and the power of the Lord. We went from seven dancers last semester to fifteen in just a couple of weeks. My dream and calling in life is to "Arise" dancers for the Lord, for Him to be glorified, and for the army of dancers to show up. And that is exactly what He did. The Lord blows my mind all the time with His goodness and favor, but that day I felt Him smile at me and, in His way, say to me, 'I see you. I've got this.'"
