Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is observed every October to unite communities, mourn victims, celebrate survivors, and work to end domestic violence. DVAM started in October 1981 as a national "Day of Unity" created by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Purple is the official color and ribbon symbol of DVAM, representing survival, courage, and peace.
