Stand In The Gap Ministries - SITGM

Stand In The Gap Ministries - SITGM www.standinthegap.org We serve a number of diverse populations, but at the core of each program is our support group methodology.

Stand in the Gap is a prayer-based, church-driven, small group movement, focused on helping a neighbor rise above overwhelming life challenges through a loving, spiritual family experience. At Stand in the Gap Ministries we continue to connect people in need with people who care, so that in relationship, our clients might rise above overwhelming life challenges and live healthy, whole lives. Stand

in the Gap staff and volunteers do not give handouts, instead, through caring, committed relationships, we work to give our neighbors in need a hand up. SITGM is committed to promoting economic sustainability and self-reliance. Across all of Stand in the Gap’s focus programs runs the common theme; empowering our clients to make wise, healthy life decisions and transition to life after crisis. Empowering people in need through prayer, relationships, and education is central to all of our focus programs (Women in Transition, Kindred Community, and Life Launch). In Women in Transition, female ex-offenders are surrounded by trained, committed volunteers who support them in their journeys to healthy, productive lives beyond bars. In Kindred Community, widows meet bi-weekly with a small group of other widows to share their experiences of grief and empower each other for life after a spouse’s death. In Life Launch, at-risk youth aging out of foster care join a small group of trained volunteers who model healthy relationships, effective communication skills and productive lives in society. Through relationships with committed, caring people, people in need are empowered to face life beyond their past addictions, failures, disappointments, and traumas. The commitment is for one year, but the friendships that develop often last a lifetime.

Summer crafting: ✅

Some of our Widows staff recently had the joy of visiting Millenial Church's Women of Worth (WOW) group! After hearing a devotional from one of the leaders, the women spent time painting birdhouses together, led by Karen Milstead and another talented member of the church.

Sweet moments like these remind us that healing and hope often grow through simple acts of creativity, community, and connection. Thank you to Karen and the WOW group for welcoming us so warmly ☀️

The U.S. Surgeon General’s Advisory recently released a study on loneliness.

"Loneliness is far more than just a bad feeling—it harms both individual and societal health. It is associated with a greater risk of cardiovascular disease, dementia, stroke, depression, anxiety, and premature death. The mortality impact of being socially disconnected is similar to that caused by smoking up to 15 ci******es a day, 4 and even greater than that associated with obesity and physical inactivity. And the harmful consequences of a society that lacks social connection can be felt in our schools, workplaces, and civic organizations, where performance, productivity, and engagement are diminished.
