The Veteran's Day Parade scheduled for November 11th at 10:30 has been canceled. Wreath Laying ceremonies will be conducted at Veteran's Park in Columbus at 11:00 a.m. and at Saluda Memorial Park at 3:30. P.m.. all Veterans and citizens of Polk County friends and nearby counties are encouraged to attend

Due to concerns for everyone's safety with the incoming weather, Bingo at Mill Spring VFW Post 10349 on Thursday, September 26th, and at American Legion Post 250 on Friday, September 27th, have been canceled.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. Please stay safe, and we look forward to seeing everyone next week.

Due to the pending weather conditions tomorrow morning (lightning, server thunder storms and high winds), we have moved our 10:00 am Memorial Day Ceremony to the McFarland Funeral Chapel located at 52 McFarland Drive, Tryon, NC 28782 (off Hyw 108).

Please plan to attend, this will be the 46th Ceremony that we've conducted

2024 Memorial Day Weekend Activities
Friday, May 24: American Legion Post 250 and Auxiliary members will distribute small paper poppies at several local businesses. Donations are welcome. All donations received will be used to benefit local Veterans.
At 1:00 pm: Members the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 9116 and Auxiliary as well as the Polk County Memorial Honor Guard will meet to place an American Flag at the grave of each Veteran interred at the Tryon Cemetery (Markham Road). We welcome others who want to participate in this activity.
Saturday, May 25 at 9:00 am: Members of the American Legion Post 250 and Auxiliary, the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 9116 and Auxiliary as well as the Polk County Memorial Honor Guard will meet to place an American Flag at the grave of each Veteran interred at Polk Memorial Garden Cemetery in Columbus, NC. The Veterans group welcomes other local groups and individuals who want to participate in this activity.
Approximately 11:00 am: then we will travel to Saluda, NC and place an American Flag on the grave of each Veteran interred at the Saluda Cemetery and the Friendship Baptist Church in Saluda, NC.
Monday, May 27 (Memorial Day) at 10:00 am: Memorial Day Ceremonies will be conducted at Polk Memorial Gardens by members of the VFW Post 9116 and Auxiliary, the Polk County Memorial Honor Guard, and McFarland Funeral Home and Crematory. The public is invited to attend this 46th annual event.
At 3:30 pm: Memorial Day Ceremonies will be conducted at the Saluda Veterans Park by members of the VFW Post 9116 and Auxiliary and the Polk County Memorial Honor Guard.
The Polk County VFW Post 9116 officers and Auxiliary officers, along with the Polk County Memorial Honor Guard will conclude each Memorial Day Ceremony with the laying of a wreath and flowers whose colors have special meanings for this Day. This will be followed with the presentation of a small American Flag, a 3-round volley Gun Salute and the playing of Taps.
