Mind your own business.

Doesn't that look like what he is thinking? What a cute frog! Just hanging out in the water, resting its chin on a lily pad and keeping an eye on the neighborhood.

Frogs can spend long stretches sitting almost motionless, with just their eyes and nostrils above the surface. It's a clever way to watch for insects.

There's something appealing about this little fellow's afternoon. No hurry to get anywhere, no need to make an impression, and absolutely no interest in whatever everyone else is worked up about.

A patch of sunshine, a comfortable spot, and the freedom to do nothing at all. Frogs have it going on.

Your cooking oil looked a lot more glamorous before it met your frying pan.

This is a field of canola flowers. That yellow spreads across miles and miles of countryside in Saskatchewan and other areas in Canada. I guess this deer thought it was too pretty not to get in the middle of it.

After the flowers fade, pods develop containing tiny seeds that are harvested and crushed to make oil.

Now your next batch of brownies might bring to mind a field of flowers and a deer up to its belly in yellow.

A good stretch looks better with feathers.

Do swans feel as good after a long stretch as we do? We’re certainly not as pretty as this when we do it.

Beneath those feathers are elbows and wrists, with the same three main arm bones we have. Those beautiful feathers are just covering them up.

It’s interesting how a wild creature can act so similarly to us and then find out they even have bones like us.

I just wish I had feathers too.

If Nature Could Raise Its Own Flag

Imagine if nature had a flag. Not one representing a country, a political party, or a particular patch of land. Just a flag that could be raised whenever humans passed another law that put the natural world at risk.

There would be a lot of flags flying.

Every time protections were stripped away, another flag would go up. Every time clean water became negotiable, another. Every time a forest was cleared, a habitat destroyed, or pollution got a free pass, the flags would rise a little higher.

And unlike humans, nature wouldn’t argue about politics. It would simply point to the evidence. Rivers that can no longer support fish. Birds losing places to nest. Wildlife running out of somewhere to be wild.

The trouble is, nature doesn’t get a vote. It doesn’t have lobbyists, campaign contributions, or a seat at the table where decisions about its future are made.

But we do.

Maybe it’s time we started raising a few flags of our own.

Naturally beautiful without make up.

The sky is glowing orange, the fog is dreamy creamy across the lake, and a heron is flying so low it nearly meets its own reflection. Gorgeous.

These kind of beautiful scenes happen whether anyone is watching or not.

Just beauty. For the heck of it.

All the pretty trees grow like this.

These pecan trees have clearly mastered the look. Big, beautiful canopies and branches stretching in every direction make an ordinary field look extraordinary.

Pecan trees take decades to reach their full potential, and the older they get, the more impressive they become.

Now there’s a beauty trend worth following.

Cue the real song: “All the pretty girls walk like this, this, this…”

Refuse to Be Ordinary.

This tree is certainly not ordinary.

The banyan tree, looks like a forest but is actually be one tree. It’s long, dangling strands are aerial roots. When they reach the ground, they take hold, thicken, and become additional support for branches that just keep spreading. The banyan doesn’t grow taller, it grows outward.

The world has plenty of ordinary already, right? No need to add to the collection.

Refuse to be ordinary.

Turn the sound on for this one.

Ospreys are so cool. They hover, plunge feet first after a meal, and fly off carrying dinner in their talons, but this one waited until a plane was passing over to appear he was making the big noise.

Nature has excellent timing.

Turns out, rainbows are hard to contain.

Florida’s government may have decided rainbow painted streets have to go, but in Key West, the rainbow simply moved to private property. It’s on fences, doors, porches, bicycles and front yards.

There’s a little rebellion in that, and I’m here for it! Not the loud, angry kind, but the kind that stands up straight, adds some color and refuses to let somebody else decide what kindness, welcoming and love looks like.

Nature figured this out long before we did. A rainbow is just sunlight meeting water at the right angle and revealing all the colors that were already there.

You can paint over a street, but controlling where the next rainbow shows up is going to be considerably harder.
