Last call. This weekend is it for the Halaby Fig Tree Fundraiser, and after 40 years, there won’t be another one.

If you’ve been meaning to grab a tree, now’s the time. Trees are running 5 to 10 feet tall, average donation is around $250 depending on size, and delivery’s available for $35 if you can’t make it out to pick one up. Just email Ken at [email protected] to set up a time, but don’t wait too long, the sale closes Sunday.

Every tree funds programs like Model UN, E-Sports, Math Team, and DECA for Trumbull kids, and it’s fully tax-deductible. Forty years of trees comes down to this weekend. Don’t miss it.

Fig Tree Fundraiser: Your Questions, Answered

How do I get one?
Email Ken directly at [email protected] and he’ll set up a time for you to come take a look and pick one out.

How much does it cost?
Average donation runs around $250, but it really depends on the size of the tree you pick. Delivery’s available too if you can’t make it out to them.

How big are the trees this year?
Anywhere from 5 to 10 feet tall, and Ken says the crop is loaded.

When do the figs actually ripen?
September. By October, the tree starts going dormant for the winter, so don’t panic when the leaves start dropping, that’s normal.

How do I take care of it once I bring it home?
Keep it somewhere sunny and water it every other day, just don’t overdo it (yellow leaves mean too much water, drooping means it needs more). Once November hits, give it one more good watering and move it into an unheated garage for the winter. Bring it back outside in mid-April, fertilize it around the 21st, and you’re back to your regular watering routine.

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, every dollar goes to the Trumbull ACE Foundation and it’s fully tax-deductible.

Where does the money actually go?
Right back to Trumbull kids, through the Ken Halaby “Attitude Is Everything” Award and ACE Foundation programs like We the People, Model UN, Mock Trial, and DECA.

When does the sale end?
August 29.

Today’s the day. The Halaby Fig Tree Fundraiser is officially open, and after 40 years, this is the last one.

Trees are ranging from 5 to 10 feet tall this year, and the crop is loaded. If you want to come take a look and pick one out, just email Ken at [email protected] to set up a time.

Average donation is around $250, though it varies with tree size. Delivery’s available too if you can’t make it out to them. Sale runs through August 29.

Every tree sold goes right back into programs like Model UN, E-Sports, Geography Club, and DECA for Trumbull kids. Forty years of trees, and one last chance to be part of it.

Today’s the day. The First Selectman’s Golf Tournament is happening right now at Tashua Knolls, and guess what’s up for grabs? One of Ken’s own fig trees, raffled off to one lucky golfer.

We have Ken showing off the tree and the Trumbull ACE Foundation crew braving the rain to be there. Good luck to whoever walks away with it today. And if you’re not golfing, don’t worry, the real fundraiser kicks off tomorrow!

Starting Monday: the last Halaby Fig Tree Fundraiser.

Back in 1982, a branch was cut from a fig tree in Richmond, Virginia and planted in Ken and Linda Halaby’s backyard here in Trumbull, in memory of Linda’s father. That one branch is where every fig tree in this fundraiser comes from. 150+ trees later, growing in 20+ states, and this is the year it wraps up.

Ken said it best: “When we started sharing these trees, I never imagined they’d be growing in backyards across more than 20 states. Linda and I have been blessed to share this tradition with so many wonderful people, and our hope is that this final fundraiser inspires others to continue supporting our schools and our community for years to come.”

And this year’s crop might be the best one yet. Ken’s been out checking on the trees and says it’s the most prolific year for figs in 40 years.

Here’s why it matters. Every donation goes straight to the ACE Foundation and the Ken Halaby Attitude Is Everything Program, the same funding that keeps clubs like We the People, Geography Club, DECA, E-Sports, Math Teams, Model UN and Mock Trial running for Trumbull kids. You buy a tree, a kid gets to keep doing what they love.

Trees range from 5 feet to 10 feet tall this year. Average donation price is $250, though it varies with tree size. Delivery’s available for $35 if you can’t pick up. Appointments run August 17-29. Message us for more details.

A little bit more about our Fig Tree Fundraiser:

Ken and Linda Halaby have been growing and giving away fig trees in Trumbull for 40 years, and this is officially their last year running the fundraiser.

It’s easy to think of this as just a tree for your yard. But really, every donation goes straight to the ACE Foundation and the Ken Halaby Attitude Is Everything Program, the same funding that keeps clubs like these running for Trumbull kids.

Look at the picture for a second. That’s We the People at Nationals, our Geography Club holding their trophy, DECA with their medals, and Mock Trial mid-case. Every one of those kids is there because of fundraisers like this and the generosity of folks like you.

Trees range from 5 feet to 10 feet tall this year and the crop is tremendous! Average donation price is $250. The actual price will vary with the size of the tree. Appointments will take place between August 17-29. Message us for more details.

Let’s hear from one of the advisors that our Fig Tree fundraiser helps. Katie Boland teaches Social Studies at Trumbull High School and coaches the We the People team.

“Most years, the funding to actually run We the People and get the kids to Nationals isn’t guaranteed. Same goes for Model UN, Mock Trial, eSports, and all the academic and civic teams that Trumbull ACE Foundation supports. That money comes from things like this fig tree fundraiser. Ken has said before that his hope is that this final fundraiser inspires others to keep supporting our schools and our community for years to come, and honestly, that’s exactly what it does. Every tree sold is money a kid gets to use for something the school budget doesn’t cover.”

— Katie Boland, Social Studies Teacher

This is the last year Ken and Linda are doing this Fig Tree Fundraiser. Let’s make it the best year yet! $250+ suggested donation, trees run 6 to 9 feet tall, delivery’s $35 if you can’t pick up. The fundraiser runs from August 17–August 29th. Message us for more information!

In 1982, a branch was cut from a fig tree in Richmond, Virginia, and planted in the Halabys’ backyard here in Trumbull, in memory of Linda’s father. Her grandkids helped plant it.

That one branch is where every fig tree in this fundraiser comes from. 150+ trees later, in 20+ states, it’s still going.

This is the last year Ken and Linda are running the fundraiser, so we wanted to share the full story for anyone who’s never heard it.

Kickoff is Aug 17 at the First Selectman’s Golf Tournament, and the sale runs through Aug 29. Average donation for a tree is around $250 depending on size. Trees can be picked up at the Halabys’ home or delivered for $35 — send us a message for more info!

Ken watered the trees yesterday and said it’s the most productive crop he’s ever seen. Truly a banner year for figs. 🤗👏
