Some hindrances to avoid as a prophetic voice —
(Jeremiah 23)
1. Using power and authority unjustly. This will take the prophet into a spirit of manipulation. (Witchcraft) We must ask ourselves why do we want a revelation? Then what will you do when you have it? Wrong motives will hinder the discernment of the revelation you have received. It will contaminate the delivery of the word.
2. When one mixes the sources of their message. They may begin to mix the thoughts of the world with the voice of the Spirit. This will pollute the message. Everyone needs personal cleansing in their lives before they can be fully usable to the Lord.
3. Prophets who engage in immorality can be in danger of becoming a false prophet. They will live in compromise, and they can receive a familiar spirit and walk deception. Repentance is key to a holy life.
4. Prophets must guard from speaking from their own imagination. Prophecy should be judged. They must guard speaking their own opinions, and trying to hang onto them as the authority of the Lord. This will take the spirit of humility and accountability.
5. Prophets who speak peace when there is no peace. These prophets have no backbone. Rather than speak the truth, they will speak what people want to hear to gain influence or following. Prophets cannot have a man pleasing spirit, and please the Lord. This will mislead many people.
6. Prophets who prophecy for mammon or financial gain will give false reports concerning the Lord They will fall in the end.
7. Prophets who’s well is dry can be tempted to steal words from others and can be in danger, but becoming an echo another.
8. Prophets who think to highly of themselves than they should, will engage in reckless boasting. God will not share his glory with anyone.
9. Prophets must keep their heart from prejudices and any racism concerning others. This will cause them to be biased and minister out of a bitter spirit. It will damage the body of Christ. Be sanctified in the love of Jesus!
10. Prophets should speak out of the presence of the Lord, the heart of God that they received in the council of the Lord. Not out of a gifting.
