TOMMY HICKS’ EXTRAORDINARY VISION OF 1961
The sleeping giant, the last great revival, and the end-time Church
On July 25, 1961, at approximately 2:30 in the morning, evangelist Tommy Hicks was in Winnipeg, Canada, when he experienced what would become one of the most widely circulated prophetic visions in Pentecostal history.
Hicks was already known internationally for his extraordinary evangelistic campaigns in Argentina in 1954, where enormous crowds had gathered and remarkable healings were reported. But seven years later, he described a vision that went far beyond his own ministry.
According to Hicks, the vision appeared three times that morning and returned again on July 27.
What he saw was a gigantic man stretching across the entire earth.
The giant’s feet reached toward the North Pole, his head toward the South Pole, and his arms extended from sea to sea. Yet this enormous figure was struggling to live. His body was covered with debris, and thousands of hideous creatures surrounded him.
Whenever the giant attempted to move, the creatures fled. When he became still, they returned.
Hicks understood the giant to represent the Body of Christ, restrained and hindered by forces that had kept the Church from walking in its full spiritual power.
Then something began to happen.
The giant raised one hand toward heaven, then the other. The creatures scattered, and the enormous figure began rising to its feet.
As the giant stood, the clouds above him turned silver.
Then drops of liquid light began falling from heaven.
The light poured over the giant until his enormous body seemed to dissolve into millions of believers scattered across the earth.
Men and women everywhere began lifting their hands and praising God.
Hicks then saw a glorious figure clothed in white whom he understood to be Jesus Christ.
As Christ stretched out His hands toward people across the nations, the liquid light flowed upon them, and they received a mighty anointing.
These believers went throughout the world preaching the Gospel, praying for the sick, and demonstrating the power of God.
Hicks emphasized that they were not necessarily famous ministers or highly educated religious leaders. They were ordinary believers from every walk of life.
The vision portrayed a worldwide company of Spirit-filled Christians moving in supernatural power.
He described extraordinary miracles, divine healing, and people being transported from one place to another through supernatural intervention.
Yet the vision also contained a warning.
Some people refused the calling and anointing being offered to them. Hicks saw them withdrawing into darkness.
He also witnessed fierce persecution against those who accepted God’s calling.
But the persecution did not stop the movement. The believers continued their work, united by divine love rather than personal ambition or religious position.
Then the vision moved toward its final scenes. Hicks heard a heavenly voice identifying these believers as God’s people and His beloved bride. He saw the graves opening and the saints of previous generations rising. The redeemed gathered together, forming the enormous body once again.
This time, the giant was clothed in spotless white.
Christ appeared as its head.
Finally, Hicks witnessed scenes of destruction and divine judgment falling upon the earth before the glorified Body of Christ rose.
When he awakened, he was convinced that he had seen a prophetic picture of the Church’s final ministry before Christ’s return.
The central message was not that the Church would disappear in weakness, but that God would raise up ordinary believers, pour out His Spirit, and send them throughout the nations in extraordinary power.
Hicks believed the greatest work of the Church still lay ahead.
His vision became known as “The Vision of the Body of Christ and the End-Time Ministries.”
