Exciting news from The University of Alabama School of Law! βοΈ
This fall, the new Community Development Clinic will begin providing pro bono legal services to nonprofits, NGOs, community organizations, faith communities, and rural governmental entities across Alabama.
Under the direction of Jeff Baker, Clinical Professor of Law and Associate Dean of Experiential Learning, the Clinic will provide support in areas including corporate governance and compliance, operational and transactional matters, and policy and advocacy.
As the Clinic prepares to launch, community leaders, nonprofit professionals, and partners across Alabama are encouraged to help spread the word and make introductions to organizations that may benefit from these services. Due to ethical requirements, the Clinic cannot directly solicit potential clients and relies on inquiries and referrals to begin conversations.
All potential engagements will be subject to conflict checks and a mutual determination that the Clinic and prospective client are a good fit. Law students will work with clients under Professor Baker's supervision, with most matters handled within academic terms.
The Clinic's mission is to expand access to justice, strengthen organizations, and empower communities throughout Alabama. π€ποΈ
