From delicious food and inspiring speakers to student research posters and meaningful conversations, Saturday was a wonderful reminder of the connection between food, health, and a healthier planet.

Families are being forced to pay to repair a power grid that wasn’t built to withstand extreme weather from climate change, even as utility companies are doubling down on fossil fuels rather than investing in clean energy.

A new report from found that at least 23 utilities are currently charging customers more, or have requested to, explicitly citing extreme weather.

We are calling on utility companies, elected officials, and state policymakers to protect households from rising costs by modernizing the energy grid, choosing clean and affordable energy sources over costly fossil fuels, and making big tech and the utilities shoulder the cost. 🌿 Food as Medicine: Next Saturday!

We’re getting closer to MiCCA’s 3rd Annual Climate & Health Event: Food as Medicine for People and the Planet!

Join us next Saturday for a full day of learning, connection, and conversation exploring the many ways food can support the health of people, communities, and our planet. We’re also offering 6 CME credits.

Our program features a great lineup of sessions, including:
🌱 Keynote with Dr. M. Jahi Johnson-Chappell, Ph.D.
🌿 Envisioning a Better Food System to Serve People & the Planet — exploring food, farming, ecology, and community
🥬 The Power of Healthy Food: Interactive Clinical Case Studies with Health Professionals
🎓 Student Poster Presentations — highlighting the work, research, and ideas of students in the field

And we’re especially excited about lunch! Sam Anglin, an Indigenous Chef from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, will be providing a special catered meal for attendees. We’re grateful for the opportunity to bring food, culture, and community together around the table.
