American Robins in Southern California 🍂🐦
As autumn settles into Southern California, American Robins are moving around the landscape in search of food and suitable places to rest. While some robins are year-round residents in our region, others arrive from farther north as part of their seasonal movements. They often gather in trees, perching high in the canopy while surveying their surroundings before moving on to another location.
I spotted two American Robins perched high up in a tree for two consecutive days. Now, they seem to have moved on. Were they just stopping briefly during their seasonal travels, or exploring the area for food? It’s a reminder that even familiar birds can appear for a short time and then disappear, leaving us wondering where their next stop will be. 🌳

Spotted this Oregon subspecies of the Dark-eyed Junco foraging! 🐦
Dark-eyed Juncos are returning from their breeding grounds, becoming more common along the California coast again. Some are short-distance migrants that nest in our nearby mountains, while others travel from breeding grounds in other states.
