For anyone who buys grocery store produce, even Whole Foods…this may be a material fact to be aware of.

🚨 Texas AG Ken Paxton is investigating major grocery chains and threatening legal action for spraying organic produce with the pesticide Produce Maxx, without telling customers.

Produce Maxx is an EPA-registered antimicrobial containing high levels of hypochlorous acid (a form of chlorine).

While used to kill bacteria and extend shelf life, this post-harvest spraying on organic fruits and vegetables poses risks to consumers who assume their "organic" produce is pesticide-free.

Many stores hide the misting systems and provide no warnings or instructions to rinse the produce, despite federal law and USDA rules requiring a thorough rinse with drinking water before eating to maintain organic status.

Paxton calls it misleading and potentially illegal, demanding clear signage about the pesticide treatment and rinsing requirement—or face enforcement.

Texas shoppers buying organic deserve to know what's really on their food.

Love it!

In Japan, the simple act of buying groceries is becoming remarkably personal. Some strawberry boxes are now featuring a unique touch: the actual **smiling face and message of the farmer** who grew the fruit. This innovation goes far beyond typical branding and turns food packaging into a heartfelt introduction.

---

This move transforms a simple, anonymous product label into a direct **bridge of trust and gratitude** between the consumer and the producer. By highlighting the individual farmer, this practice powerfully reminds shoppers that their food is the result of **real people, real soil, and genuine care**, rather than just an output from an impersonal factory line.

---

This emphasis on personal connection is part of a broader shift in consumer culture, valuing transparency and origin. It not only honors the hard work of the local farmers but also cultivates a deeper sense of appreciation and **community** with every purchase.

The story of a few people in Austin that cared a whole bunch…

The story of a few people in Austin that cared a whole bunch…

"The Unforeseen" should be required watching for anyone who moves to Austin. The 2007 documentary, by director Laura Dunn, tells the story of how a bunch of Austin hippies and old schoolers stood up to developer Gary Bradley to protect the Barton Springs watershed and pool in the face of the Circle C development. The state legislature ultimately screwed them over, but the film shows how regular people can make a difference. Dunn, along with Bill Bunch and a rancher featured in the film, stuck around for a Q&A afterward. It's kind of a tough film to watch - I've been here since 1969, and this city doesn't look at all like it once did. A pocketful of money might be good for a few, but preserving open spaces and nature benefits all of us. Chris and I went to the showing with Austin's OG environmentalists, the one and only George Cofer (you can thank him for the Violet Crown Trail), and his wife Mary Elizabeth. More about this important film at https://twobirdsfilm.com/films/theunforeseen. Highly recommended.
