The mission of 4-H is to assist youth, and adults working with those youth, to gain additional knowledge, life skills, and attitudes that will

further their development as self-directing, contributing, and productive members of society. Standing for head, heart, hands, and health, 4-H uses more than a century of experience in youth development programming to build strong, confident leaders. Through school-based, after-school, and community clubs as well as camp settings, 4-H members pledge to build a better community, country, and world. The James City County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is your local connection to Virginia's land-grant universities, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University. Through educational programs based on research and developed with input from local stakeholders, we help the people of James City County improve their lives. Birds and a Bike 4-H Weekend!
Teen volunteers first flocked to J. Blaine Blayton Elementary School for the Spring Carnival, hosted by J. Blaine Blayton Elementary PTA, then rolling right into Wonderfest by James City County Parks & Recreation the next day!

Our 4-H’ers loved bringing hands-on fun, STEM, and smiles to the community all weekend long! 💚🍀

Our 7th grade Life Science classes at Lois S. Hornsby Middle School have had an incredible hands-on learning experience with our 4-H Embryology Project.

It’s not every day you get to have live animals in your classroom, and we’re excited to help bring these memorable STEM experiences to students across all grade levels! 💛🐥
